Interarms Mark X
Any experience with this rifle? What sort of a reputation do they have for accuracy, handling and reliability? Are they CRF? Anything to look out for?

I have relied on one now for over twenty-five years and they are great by all your criteria.
Yes they are CRF.

While they are quite utilitarian they work well.

As a general rule, people are nuts!

Isn't a Charles Daly an Interarms Mark-X?

I believe so or at least they were until Remington started buying them for their 798s & seem to have taken over the US rights to them, as I understand it.

Charles Daly imported them after Interarms and before Remington. Of course Daly imported a lot of things that are not Mark X actions as well.

One of the best buys on the market if you can find the express models.
Even the standard or Alaskan versions are great shooters.
I like them because they are light and handle exactly as the Whitworths.

I own one in .375, and it is the most accurate big bore of the four I own. Chambers smoothe as silk. Would have no problem taking it on a one-gun safari.

The only thing to watch, at least on my 458, is that it needed cross-bolts and a bedding job -- and a recoil pad... and a recoil reducer -- it's for sale, BTW...

I have a Charles Daly in 458WM. It has 1 cross bolt.
Are you saying it needs a second cross bolt?

My interarms mk/x is a whitworth in 458 win

It's great, accurate, reliable...
Also it has been double cross bolted (additional bolt at rear) bedded, had the front sight replaced with a necg banded (factory front sight popped off) the barrel recoil lug has been re-fitted (wasn't square in it's recess, screws needed replacement too)

I think that anything in the price range would need similar attention.

I run 350gr snrn hornadys at 2450fps, moa accurate and consistent.

Just another good Mauser 98, how could that be bad? I have owned a number of them, mostly the Whitworths and they are an excellent rifle.

Alf,
Exactly, but how many of the Whitworths have blown up...I have seen many of them opened up in front for larger than intended calibers, including the factory models in .375 and .458 as they are also openned up totally in front, and none of them that I'm aware of have developed headspace or blew up, therefore I am pretty well convienced they have to be a pretty strong action..

I understand that Zastava actually made M-98 actions for Mauser, with Mauser banners, during the late 1970's. they seemed to think they were of OK quality.
No they don't have a C ring but, except in theory and for something to argue about over beers, or the web, it doesn't make much difference. They are a sound action.
