I recently purchased a 376 Steyr Pro hunter, and own a Whitworth 375 H&H too......I've been thinking that the two rifles are nearly duplicates in performance, and I really like the Steyr, so, I'm leaning towards selling the Whitworth and buying something bigger.

The Whitworth is not "stock", it wears a replacement barrel and a B&C Stock.

I'm more interested in a "working" rifle, fancy wood and flawless bluing is nice, but not on my list of requirements. At the top of my list is weatherproof and tough, so a stainless/synthetic rifle appeals to me. I want something that doesn't cost an arm and leg to shoot and it needs to be a step above the 376 Steyr. My first thought is a 458 win mag, and I REALLY like the "jungle carbine" idea. If I'm lucky, the rifle might make one trip to Africa for DG and a few to Alaska....but realistically, it will see most use as a big bore rock breaker. [Wink]

So, if you wanted a weatherproof "jungle carbine" type rifle, what would you buy or build?

If that Whitworth is an Express model, why not re-chamber it to .375 Weatherby for a boost in power?

Or, rebarrel to .458. You can use cast bullets (hard or conventional), '.45-70' bullets of 300grs. and 405grs., plus all the stoutly-constructed bullets designed for the .458Win.Mag.

A short barreled rock breaker = 458 Win

Sounds like you need a CZ 550 in 458 Winchester and also a hacksaw [Big Grin]

Sounds like a candidate for the 45/70 or 450 Marlin. [Wink]

keep the 376 as is, and build a 458 LOTT carbine... the 375 will be perfect for it, just rebarrel and reblue..
