HI People Nice that AR is back online. After reading a lot about DGR rifles here at AR and other places, I have changed my mind on CZ rifles, they were and most places still are considered to be low quality, but that will change, I am sure. So my friend and I are now buying CZ550 rifles for a buff hunt in 2005. Calibers are 416Rigby and 375H&H. They will both be fitted with a scope in 1-4 and or 1.5-6. But he question is, what mount to use. Here in Europe the most common quick detatch mount is an EAW (unlock and twist to the right) [image]http://www.eaw.de/Produkte/produkte.html[/image] . The CZ550 has bases made for it or maybe the EAW company made their mount for the CZ bases, I am not sure. Has any of you had personal experiences with EAW QD mounts? Can and will you recommend It? Or is another xxx brand better? I like my hunting gear to be as reliable as possible, so advice that comes from experience on this is much appreciated.

Niels I have the EAW mounts on my CZ550 416 Rigby. About 100 rounds shot and the mounts held up well. On the other hand they are VERY VERY high, due that I had to replace the low standard stock and get a higher straigt lined custom to fit with the heigth of the scope - now its OK. Why don't you just look at the factory scope mounts in the lowest heigth you can get for the 1-4x or maybe the 1,5-6x also? You wouldn't need to drill the bridge for that and they are cheaper... I wouldn't use the special CZ550 EAW mounts again, pricey and too high. Good luck! Franz

Hi Franz What do you mean by "Factory scope mounts"...? CZ's own?

I have an EAW on a .338 Win that holds up perfectly. If you want to be extra safe, check out the magnum version of EAW.

I have heard several complaints about them not working well on big bores..Rhemier Johannson told me there is a trick to mounting them that will make them work well on big bores but most smiths don't know how to mount them...it takes some minor modifications according to him...I tend to trust his judgment in such matters...I have never used them, I am just passing this on for what its worth.

Thanks for your replies. Andre- I will install the magnum version, if I install an EAW. In fact... I have only used the magnum versions when I have used EAW QD's Atkinson- I have used EAW QD mounts on other rifles, but never on a heavy recoiling rifle. I installed them myself and haven't had problems, but like I said, never used them on a big gun. 1. can you get me in touch with Rhemier Johanson, so that I can ask him about the modifications he uses? and 2. What alternative for a CZ550 would you recommend?

I have an EAW mount on my 6,5x55 (with two scopes) and they are a really good mount. But when I bought my CZ550 Magnum I didn't like the height of the EAW's so I bought Warne QR instead. I now have two Leupolds (1-4x20 and 3-9x40) mounted in Warne rings and switching scopes work really well without noticable shift of POI.

I have a set of EAWs on a Sauer 200 and like the other posters, I find them too high for normal American stock combs but in 270 it isn't much of a matter. Since I like a good cheek weld on the stock I would not use them on a big kicker.

I use warne qd's mostly on my cz's but also have a set of talley qd's. I often have issues with vertical split rings and leupold variable scopes....even after lapping etc.

I have a set on my Model 70 375 H&H. It is a typical, over-engineered german contraption that works. IT takes a LOT of adjusting to get it to work right and it is also very expensive. Craig Boddington says that the upper recoil limit is the 375 and I agree. You are much better off with Warne's Talleys or even Leupold's QD mounts. jorge

My factory (CZ) rings are OK so far on my .416. They're heavy, but that is probably a good thing on a .416.
