[URL= ]50yds[/URL] [URL= ]200yds[/URL] That is the way it should be.The first shot was out of a super clean bore that I wiped the oil out just before.Both shots fired with open sights off the bench.I also checked to see how it feeds flat nosed solids and it handles those very smoothly without any issues.It is ready for Africa!!

Hi 4sixteen.The rifle is a Martini Gunbuilders 458 Lott.It has a Krieger barrel on a Vektor action.It is an open sight rifle only.There are some pictures of it in the custom rifles forum.What is a Sako AV? The Sako AV (long action) was made previous to the Sako 75. I have a good supply of .416 Rem. mag. brass that I can easily re-size to .458 Lott. Any favorite loads you have developed? -

H4895, 77-80grs for the 500 grain bullets;77grs for the 550gr RSP Woodleigh and 75.5grs for the 550 Woodleigh FMJ;82grs for the 405gr Remington soft points(practice load).I use Hornady and Norma brass with Winchester primers.I've shot these loads in 5 different rifles with no issues but it is best to start lower and work up.BTW,I molly coat all my bullets.

Shootaway, that much H4895 would drive 500gr bullets at more than 2200fps! I plan to use 350gr bullets at about 2300 to 2400fps using around 70grs of RL-7. Ample power I think for anything on this continent. Cool round, really looking forward to getting my rifle back soon.

4sixteen,in regard to powder choice,I would choose one that is temperature stable,fills up both the case and chamber,and is accurate.I don't think R7 is slow enough to fill up the whole chamber.That might be why I had pressure issues with it.Here is an open sight 100yd, 4 shot group with H4895 and 500gr bullets,I shot useing my Ruger in 2009. You've got an accurate rifle. The reloading manual states 76.1 gr of RL-7 and a 350 gr bullet for a MV of 2600 fps as a maximum load. The 350 gr X bullet is nearly as long as the 500 gr Hornady bullet. I hope I don't have any issues. I might need a bit of dacron fill. I've got a ton of RL-7 that I need to use up.

I give a lot of credit to the Ruger's notched leaf sights for open sight groups like that.I've tried to repeat it with even more accurate rifles without success-mainly because they used the quick slight V leafs such as the stand up sight uses.

Nice groups. I haven't ever shot my Lott at 100. Bought if for a close in and personal rifle. Only shot it at 50 and less but suspect that it will almost shoot that well at 100. If only I could.

I like to use mine as an all around rifle.
