While I'm slowly paring down the toy box to buy a double Frowner I've been thinking about giving my 458 Win a reprieve, and to keep it as a back up. Does anyone make a drop in stock for a Mark X w. a larger butt surface?

I'll second that question as I'm looking for the same for a build I'm gonna do.

Thanks,

When looking at replacments look for "MAGNUM"style or look at the specks. thre is a lot of diferance in the size (width) of stocks. My CZ 458Lott is 1.91 wide and my Sako Lott is 1.5 inches wide. You can call or email most of the stock makers and ask if they can leave on wider than standerd. I rember playing with a big Asquare that looked like it was 2.5 in wide.
Aglifter, where in Texas are you? The big gunshow in Tulsa is coming up and that would be a great plase to look at stocks.

Although I understand the fantasy that a big butt stock sucks up recoil like a sponge exists, It has never done much for me or changed the felt recoil of a big bore...but I have a tough shoulder, so maybe its me......My main concern with recoil is getting smacked in the cheek, and thumped on my middle finger, now that hurts...I also think the fantasy that a glass stock sucks up recoil is another croc, it weights less than wood in most cases and that would off set the flex..

Bottom line is big bores kick, but if the stock fits you, its less severe IMO...Some of the very thin, lean and mean, English rifles I have shot were the best at sucking up the recoil...go figure.

Ray,
I don’t think that big butt stocks are any magic bullet for recoil. I do think it is part of the big picture along with stock design and fit. I can tell a big difference in the felt recoil between my current 2 Lotts. The CZ is only ¾ of a pound heavier but the butt is a little wider and seems to help. I was just noticed that the pad on the CZ feels softer than the one on the Sako, (they are both decelerator pads) I have a new one on the shelf so I may just change it out. The Sako is nearly 8 years old so maybe they have made some improvements in the material.
The bottom line is they need to weigh enough to be shoot able.
