I ordered one this weekend, made upon on a VZ 24 Millitary Mauser that had parts of the Brno 602 magazine on it, an M70 safety, deep belly magzine, ebony tip forend, low Weaver bases , 4 leaf rear sight, barrelband foresight and sling swivlestud, the , a sturdy working rig.

Included in tjhe price was dies, brass, bullets.

I bought some bullets from an Norwegian gunsmith who also took an look at the magazine to see that the conversion had been done properly to ensure safety features was intact, he looked at it for some minutes and he said , "Approved!!"

The bullets are an 300 grain all copper PBP model that is Norwegian type, an mix between between Barnes X and GSC bullets , they have an bigger expansion hole and they can custome make bullets up to 48 mm if you want it, and they arnt all that expesive either.

Ill post some pictures of the bullets soon.

The price on the rifle 1100 dollars, new price would be about 5000 dollar

I'd also like to see pictures of the magazine and floorplate assembly. The Brno 602 is substantially longer and wider than what fits a standard length Mauser like the VZ24.

Ill post some pictures of the rifle soon, when i get it, the application is with the police weapon office now and when its done, it will be a short but long wait for the rifle to arrive.

The magazine is long and wide, they have taken out alittle bit at rear of the magzine to ensure that the cartridge will fit.

But the gunsmith that was present, he inspected the rifle and said ok.

Its a very deep magazine on it, so it will be fun to see how many round the magazine will hold.

It warms my heart every time I learn of another AR member buying a 404. Great decision.

Wink,
you should offer to drive over and help break in the rifle. It's only about four inches away on my map of Europe!

Idaho, you know, those Norwegians have pretty hard heads. I'd be so full of advice that Rigby would probably figure out how to drop me into some fjord in no time. Besides, I hear they have a million percent value added tax making a beer cost somewhere near $20.

The beer is exspensive over here, it cost ca 10 dollars on restaurants and pubs , and its not sure that you get an pint if ypu order one for that price either.....

But it varies, it can be 5 dollars on one place and in the tourist places its caa 10 dollars, its very expensive up here to live, but fortunately, Sweden and Denmark with their liberal prices arnt far away .

Where was i, the 404 is a great round that i have wanted for a while, but never seen one in my price range, if the police is kind now and the bank account is even kinder itll be a trip to the store to pick it up soon.

http://www.performancebullet.no/

Here is some of the bullets that are availbale up here, custom bullet that i have some boxes from and wil ltest on various hunting this season.

I saw on Midway Norway that ASquare has their bullets in .404 , are they somethin to try or should i try other bullets?

Ditto, sounds interesting. They have opened them up for .416 Rigby, but it would be interesting to see how long they made the box for the .404 Jeffery. The box width of the 602 should be perfect for the .404 Jeffery. 5 down?

Mr. Rigby, I understand you can get the South African Rhino bullets, and even loaded ammunition with Rhino bullets right next door in Sweden. Try this link:

Yes, we have rhino importer here in Norway, so they will be bought some of also.

They will load various ammo, but that is expensive, so il lsettle for handloading.

Anyone of you that knows what 450 grain bullet norma loads with in their PH series in the .404?

i think that it can be 5 shot in the rifle, its very deep magazine on it.

They have bullets, ca 65 dollrs for 25 404 bullets, but no ammo yet,

The swedish crown is very low , about 80 kr for 100 Norwegian, so its a good time to shop there, 20 years ago it was ca 130 SEK too 100 NOK.

So what scopemount will be fine there, its low profile Weaver bases, they look like Warne rings would be a good fit there.

I `m thinking on an Leopold 2.5-8x36 with heavy duplec reticle as that will be versatile and allround for much different usage for mye hunting and shooting.

Husky, i have read your aticle in Vapentidningen, about the .404 jeffrey and have you tried the 450 grain bullets that norma loads with in the African PH series?

I saw in Taylors book that the 300 grain bullets that was made for it didnt hold up good, cause people used them on short ranges instead of longer ranges, perhaps the Performance Bullets Production 300 grain i have some of will turn it into the versatile allrounder it its with slugs from 300 - 450 grain.

Check the bullet diameter. Why is this thingy called .404? The designation .423 Express was not already spoken for right? bewildered

Ditto on the photo request & also please post a close-up of the underside of the receiver in order that we might see how the two parts were mated up.

The 404 is a wonderful cartridge. You know I have been a rifle crank since I was 12 and I have never ever held in my hands a 404. I have held a 500 Schuler, and a 4 bore single shot, but never a 404. Hell I have even got touch a Purdey!

I wonder how many 404s are on this planet?

I would assume I just have the 404 curse. I know there has to be about 10000 times more 404s than 500 Schulers.

I have built (stocked) and used a lot of .404s on M-70, Mausers, and CZs and it has been my favorite caliber for years although its probably no better or worse than a 416 Rem. I hate to say that, but its the truth.

Very few Mauser 98s, CZs, or M-70 conversion are 100% (most are 95% or less) functional regardless of what you hear.

D'Arcy is planning a M-70 in 404 with special bottom that he makes himself and I am sure if he makes it, it will work 110%.

I would love to have an original Mauser in .404. they worked like a charm.

My .404 is done on the much maligned weak 1909 Argentine action but I keep the loads low just the 400 gr woodleigh at 2150 fps and have had no drama's.

I do like the nice trim package that can be had for the .404 J built on a mauser m98 even if it's not technically the right thing to do.
