Gunsmith to build a .577 T-Rex? Login/Join

I have 2 P-14 Enfield actions and am interested in having a .577 Tyrannasaur built. My goal is a utilitarian .577 T-Rex as it is just a curiosity from my point of view. I would like to have it built as inexpensively as possible. Does anyone have any suggestions for an American gunsmith that may be interested in this work?

I have a .505 and it is my upper limit on recoil. The T-Rex is beyond my recoil tolerance and will never be used to hunt, just for the wow factor at the range. Thanks in advance for your time.

I've shot Saeed's .577 T-Rex (the one you see flying over people's heads in the videos) and the recoil just isn't that bad.

Build it correctly, and you'll find yourself shooting more than you think.

However, if you want something bigger than your .505 but STILL practical, look at the .550 Express.

No, part the of appeal to the T-Rex is owning a rifle named after a dinosaur!

Dear Sir; I recommend that you contact Jones' Fort in Redding Calif. @ 530-222-3223, speak to the owner Marshall Jones, as this shop has built the T-Rex, and our own cartridge the 606 Jones Mammoth, the basic Enfield style action is used. Exscriptos Veratis, J.L.Moffett.

P.S. Visit the post Caprivi Elephant by Biggestgun, to view our 606 Jones Mammoth, and it's result. Thanks J.L.Moffett.

Give Wayne Jacobson at American Hunting Rifles a call. Dunno if he'd do a T-Rex but he'll do a .600 OK on an Enfield.

I second PWS. The 600ok will best anything the 577 Trex can do shocker and is easier to get good brass.
Get with Wayne (Bitterroot) on here and he'll shoot you straight

I never bothered even building a T-Rex as the .60OOK is such a better design with better brass and bullet selection available. Its also way more powerfull. With 750gr bullets the .600OK will easily hit 2750fps. Brass is easy to get and readily available. With 900 gr bullets it will put a big texas smile on your face. AHR is a reliable manufacturer who will deliver a finished rifle to your specs. ON TIME! Lots of horror stories on this site concerning smiths who never deliver. Finally there is a 585 AHR which is the .600OK case necked down to .577 that a number of us developed for those who just had to have a reliable version of the T-Rex.
I should also point out that while you may have a Enfield action, the amount of machine time that needs to go into one to get it to feed a T-rex will exceed the cost of a new CZ550 by a fair margin. The mag box alone will run $400 or more. Do your research and consider all the options, then deceide. -Rob
