.500 Jeffery Scope Rings Login/Join

I recently ordered a CZ .500 Jeffery and planing on putting a Leupold VX III 1.5-5x scope on it. I have one on my .460 WM. I thought about putting the Leupold 2.5x on but I like the higher magnification for longer shots. I have heard that the matte finish is better for the rings to grip to? I have no Idea what kind of rings to use that will hold up to the recoil. Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Thanks

WLA - use good rings (I like the Talley's), lapp them and install the scope (your choice of finish).

It will either slip or it won't. If it slips, I'd pull it all apart and add epoxy. If it doesn't, then you're good to go. Setup correctly, I don't see how one finish provides any advantage over the other.

This is also a good application for a rail scope, but they get more expensive.

WLA,

Another easy solution is to purchase a scope of European manufacture (Swarovski and Schmidt and Bender are 2 examples) that has a rail mount system. No rings. Easy, but of course not cheap.
You could always buy the scope used to save on price.

BTW, I've used epoxy to mount a scope that I could not get to stay put in the rings on a 375 that I own. Worked perfectly. To take the scope out of the rings you can put it into an ultra-cold freezer (-40 centigrade or colder), and the epoxy looses it's adhesion and becomes quite brittle. In a pinch you could use dry ice in an alcohol solution too.
