Charles, It is an old Martini action built by unknown people. It has exhibition wood, full length matted rib, ~5 standing leaf sights and it will kill an eland in Namibia if all goes well. When there is lead in the air, there is hope in my heart -- MWH ~1996

It looks quite nice and sounds like a great rifle -- keep us posted on how it goes. When are you headed to Namibia -- you may have posted that before but I have slept since then?

I'm going to be hunting on the 17th of July. Not sure what for yet. Eland becomes more attractive every day. Zebra, oryx, kudu are interesting to me. Warthog is a "for sure". I won't hunt all of these, but 2 or 3 I think will be reasonable. The location is still being debated. My buddy has been there twice, so I defer to wherever he wants to go as they are all good to me. But apparently, among the choices are a fair bit of variation in the amount of cover and thus the length of the shots. So, should be interesting. I take a .38-72 Win 85 that will be going too. That one will reach further, especially given its sights, but carry less mail. If long range is really going to be an issue, I could take the Sharps 45-2.6, but I doubt that will be necessary.0 Either way shall be fun. Thanks for the additional information about your trip -- it sounds like a fun one. There can certainly be some long shots in Namibia depending on where you go and the rainfall they have had (last summer they had received a large amount of rainfall in the area I hunted so the grass was very high which made stalking a bit easier). I was lucky enough to take Mountain Zebra, Gemsbok, and Kudu. I was not focused on Eland but after seeing one old bull while stalking I can say they are very interesting. There were not really any warthog in the concession I hunted although if they were on the menu I would definitely have been interested. Good luck with the new rifle and the trip planning -- I look forward to a detailed report with a lot of pictures.
