Hi tped,
The Sako 75 did indeed come in .416RM. Just type Sako 75 .416 Rem into your address field and it will direct you to numerous sites discussing it. Take care and God bless cordell

Was looking for a moderately priced big bore and came accross this gun at a local gun show yesterday. In looking at the Sako site, it seems that they do not offer it in 416 only up to 375. any comments or opinions on this gun?

I have a Sako AV in 416 Rem Mag. It shoots bug holes with Swift A-Frames. The Sako sights are great, partridge style, very easy to use. I have a McMillan stock on mine now. It has incredible ergonomics. I use Beartooth bullets (heat treated, hard lead, gas checked) for Dear and Elk. I carried it when I lived up in Alaska. Shot plenty flat enough for Caribou, Moose just tipped over, I never worried about a Brown Bear wanting my meat. Keep the cross bolts tight. I didn't notice that my front bolt was loose last year, so I split the stock (ergo the McMillan). My bad.
The custom shop could also modify the bolt to a controlled feed configuration if you wanted that. Mine hasn't burped yet, so I will keep it as a push feed.
They are a bit stiff off the bench and prone (only tried that once). From sitting, sticks, or off hand they aren't bad at all. Just learn to rrrooollllllll with the recoil. It is my favorite hunting rifle.
A Leupold 1.5-5x20, or a Swarovski 1.5-4.5x20 works really well. I use Optilock mounts because they are as tough as Hillary's titties, but even their low mounts are high. Rumor has it that Sako is coming out with new, lower mounts.
Have fun.

It looks like it's a pretty new offering. I took a M75 Deluxe in .340 Wby. Mag. to Namibia last year and was really happy with it. The trigger is great, it holds 4 magnum rounds in the magazine, it looks good and it's pretty accurate. That .416 Rem. in the Deluxe would be a neat gun.
Here are a couple links with a little information:

Hi tped,
I forgot to mention the fact that the .416 only came in the 75 Deluxe model. Able Ammo carries them and many other Sako's. Good luck and God bless. cordell

Hi Everyone:

SAKO produced the .416 in the standard hunter and deluxe models until they came out with the "new and improved" CRF .416 a year or so go. I found a NIB hunter for $900 US awhile back and it has become my elk rifle of choice, with a 300 gr X at 2850 ish, with IMR 4064. My price did not include the Optilocks. That is a heck of a deal you found!

If anyone wants to part with another at that price, please let me know.

Good luck in your hunts this year!

John

PS If your SAKO has a push-feed bolt and sling-swivel in the fore-grip, it is the discontinued model. Let me know when you are ready to sell...

No, that is a fair price. I guess those are a special order item these days. I would take the money you saved, and apply it toward a McMillan stock. Tell them it is for a 416 Rem Mag, and they will make it heavier than their usual specs. Be sure and specify flush sling swivel mounts, or no mounts. A standard stud on the fore end will take a chunk out of your left hand sooner or later.
AccuFlite Sports, in Export, Pennsylvania, might have one or two of the McMillans in stock.
I bedded mine full length, with neutral pressure.
Alternatively, you could just shoot it as is until the stock breaks, then replace it, or use the factory stock as a pattern, and have a new one turned out of a laminate.
I would definitely get a more solid stock on it before going on an expensive hunt out of town.
Enjoy it!

I found this one at a gun show on Saturday. I looked at it more closely and it does not appear to be the deluxe model. There is no rosewood forend nor any express sights. It had the Optilok scope mounts with it. The gun is new and never fired but was sold as used. I paid $900 including tax. Hopefully, I didn't get robbed in the deal.
