I came across a Winchester in .375 H&H CRF with a blued finish and a synthetic stock. It looks like the classic stainless only it’s blued. I looked on Winchester’s website and couldn’t find it in any of the catalogues going back to 01. What is it? What is it worth? The guy was asking $575 and I got that “funny feeling†that usually ends up with me having to do a lot of explaining to my wife. Is it a good deal?

It might be an uncatalogued item, or someone just replaced the factory wood stock with a factory synthetic stock.

Contact USRAC and see if that was a non-catalogue offering.

I'd take a gamble on it... You can't beat the price.

Thanks George. I'll contact them tomorow. Didn't the wood stocked ones have barrel bands? This one does not. If anybody knows what this is or what it's worth, please let me know before I haul off and buy it. must resist....... need more information.........

A couple of things. It may be a "made up" rifle. What I mean is a H&H barrel on another action. Are the rear holes closer together than the front ones? how is it marked? Now for the best part, if it is a made up gun so what at that price it is a deal, but I would still try to get a better price just because it isn't "right". I would however check the feeding with a couple of dummies.

So that's what happened to the extra barrel and plastic stock that I sold.

There was a run of rifles a couple of years back that came from the factory blued with synthetic stocks they they show up on the auction sites from time to time. I passed on one last year for 600$ i'm still regretting it. you should buy it or pass the info along.

billhilly, i beleive i have owned this kind of rifle you are describing, if you look on the barrel it should say ClassicSM, which means synthetic stock, matte finish. I would personally not buy this considering you could find a stainless one for just a little more money.. But that is just me.. Look in the Blue book gun values and it will say that the rifle is only worth 450 to 500 dollars if i remember right...then again how bad do you want this rifle...hope this helps

Blue book = B.S., No offense grizziniator the blue book and 85% of their pricing is not correct with market pricing, if i could find a win 70 375 for 450 i would snatch it up whether i needed it or not.

You are corect about the classic SM bit, i could not think of the winchester designation for it .

It may be a deal but if the plastic stock is the one with the hard recoil pad it's going to be a throw away item. This may be the stock you would get anyway on the SS version.

A friend has a M70 as you describe and he likes it! The stock as I describe it came on my SS 7mm WSM and it's standing in a corner in the basement.

Well, I called the guy and told him I'll take it. Thanks for all your help. I'll be able to get over there and pick it up next week then I can figure out exactly what it is and post. Savage is right, the stock will end up being a throw-away or maybe a bondo-enhanced pattern for a hunk of english walnut I've had my eye on. I guess in the mean time I can put one of those ugly slip-on pads on it.
Thanks again for all your help. I can't wait to start playing with it. I needed something in between my 7 mag. and .458 and the .375 H&H sure seems to have quite a following on this board.
