Got my new CZ 550 American Safari Magnum in .375 H&H Mag. Looking for ideas on a good scope for it, have 1" rings already so thats part of the criteria. Thinking in the 1or 1.5 to 5,6, or 7 power range.

For a 375 H&H

2.5-8 would be my absolute first choice.
1.75-6 would be my next choice.

Leupold, Burris, Zeiss Conquest will all work.

When I got my CZ 550 375 H&H three years ago, the first scope I put on it was a Leupold. It lasted for about 100 rounds, and the front optic had to be replaced. I switched to a Nikon 3-9 and have been happy ever since. It has been to Africa twice, and has taken several species of plains game, and two buffalo. I use the Talley QD rings, and have not had to adjust the point of impact since I first sighted the scope in. I also shoot the rifle quite a bit at home, and have taken several wild hogs with it. I like the Nikon scope, especially since I just had another Leupold develop a problem on another rifle.

While the 375 H&H is capable of long range stuff, one should consider no scope.....a good set of irons might make you feel adequate for a DG caliber..

I wouldn't hesitate to replace the stock rings. I had considered getting a pair of those, but they didn't appear to be that sturdy. I have Warne Maxima's on my CZ 550 in 458 WM.

I have a Burris 1.5-6x Euro Diamond scope on mine, with the 3P-4 reticle and Posi-lock. Very satisfied. May I also say it has excellent eye relief too, around 4".
Both my dad and I have Burris 2-7x scopes on our pistols, his being a SRH in 454 casull and mine a BFR in 460 S&W. They hold zero perfect and are bright for the money.

I am sure the other brands will work fine, but have heard of Leupold's breaking on hevy recoil rifles. Not cool.

Or, no scope. Keep the express sights and maybe fit some sort of a peep sight. The only downside is low-light conditions.

~cheers

Spoke with my PH in africa this year, he says Leupold seem to be the ones that can take a beating and keep going.

Congratulations! I have the same rifle (hogsback stock version). I have a Leupold 1.5-5x20 Vari-X III in Warne QD rings on mine. Make sure that when mounting that particular scope that the front (objective) lens is clear of the the ring or you could break the lens.

how about replacing your 1 inch rings and replacing them with 30mm rings and going for a good quality 1 - 4 x 20 scope
