I know this may have be covered on this board somewhere, but I cant seem to find it! What are the better vintage, dates or serial number ranges for M70s in Safari Express? Were the serial numbers fairly consecutive or did Winchester reserve blocks for certain models or calibers? I seem to find them in the GXXXXXX to GXXXXXXX range. Thanks in advance. K

I do not know the serial number range, but IIRC, the last year or two of production of the Safari Express were though by many to be the best of the bunch in terms of quality, feeding, etc. The stock of that vintage was a Miller design to help with perceived recoil and to fix the stock splitting tendency. The bottom metal was upgraded to Williams and the sights were improved as well.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I can date the rifle by the description that you gave. Thanks again.
