Guys, I have decided to change gears on this .416 Taylor project. I had planned on rebarreling a Savage, but I just can't see myself being proud of a big-bore Savage . I think I'm going to go the same route I went when I had my .35 Whelen built. I bought a Winchester M70 LT in .30-06 that had some really nice wood. I then sent it off to Hill Country Firearms and they rebarrled and did the action/accuracy work. I love that rifle and it had become my favorite. So....what I'm doing is selling the 'donor' Savage and another rifle to finance another Win M70 LT and rebarrel work. I had planned on getting one chambered in something like .338 Win Mag for the correct bolt face. The one question I had was how will the check piece of the LT stock affect the recoil? Will it pound me more than a standard stock without the cheek piece? Can ya'll see any problems with my new idea in general??? I WILL have a .416 Taylor one of these days and soon I hope....but it just won't be a Savage

If the stock fits you it will not be a problem, but I don't know your recoil limits....

TXPO If you are going to buy a new rifle, why not get a 416, either a Rem Mag or a Rigby?

NE 450 No2, You know....I was thinking the same thing myself last night! I don't know....I guess I'm gonna have to think on it some more. I like the idea of the Taylor because it's different and not too many people have one. I liked the Savage rebarrel idea for awhile because it was cheap. Now I'm thinking about spending more than 3 times what I had planned on so that I could have a nice looking, more familiar Winchester. I guess I'm nuts

TXPO: I catch your drift, but I am still going to go the cheapie way. My rifle will probably never see an animal that the Taylor is normally destined for and I don't have the income that will sustain the project and the other firearms/reloading equipment I want. I also have a bad fishing habit that requires cash as well. Good luck in your endeavors and let us know what you choose. [ 02-17-2003, 18:57: Message edited by: W. Wilson ]

TXPO Take a look at the CZ Safari. My buddy has one in 375 and it shoots and handles good. They come in 416 Rigby. Just an option to the Winchester.
