Bill Tompkins, I have heard of the BBK-02 and the BBK-01. They differ significantly from the BRNO ZKK 602. Weren't the BBK's made in Korea? Stands for Bauska-Brill Korean, or something like that. I got my BBK-02 back in the late 1980's and had it turned into a .460 Weatherby. Those are good actions. I believe Mitch's tack driving 577 Tyrranosaur is a BBK-02. I don't understand the difference between the -02 versus the -01, the latter of which seems to be a more recent offering. ------------------ [This message has been edited by R. A. R.A. Berry, Let me get my notes from work in the morning and I'll be able to give you a much better answer. Bill

RAB, you are right my 577 Tyrannosaur does have a BBK-02 action. I am not sure what the difference is between the BBK-02 and the BBK-01.

DWS: Saw one the other day at Johns. OHHHHHH NIIIICE!! Olympic did themselves proud with that one. Priced right too. I would order one up but I already have three African "spec" guns in progress and lots of stocks to carve. Maybe will buy one before the price goes up tho`.

I believe that one of them is a smaller action than the other...Not sure just which one at the moment. If you go to the Olympic homepage at http://www.olyarms.com/usa.html and click on the UltraMag link they mention BBK-01 as being the large action. The old link to the details page is now under construction. It used to have locktime comparisons with other "big" actions. This action was designed with performance in mind as well. My friend has a recently acquired, but older BBK actioned rifle that Les Bauska built a while back with a stepped tapered octagon barrel. It is on the bigger of the two BBK actions and he was looking to have it rebored to .338 Lapua I believe. The newer Olympic BBK actions are apparently finished much nicer that the any of the earlier actions. Being investment cast actions they apparently require some amount of surface finishing from what I hear.

Pfeifer, If the BBK-01 is the large action, does that mean the BBK-02 is the ultra-large action? I don't think they get any bigger than the BBK-02 unless the -01 has a larger diameter bolt??? I hope Bill Tompkins can explain the difference between the -01 and the -02. ------------------

Personally I thought that the Olympic Arms webpage was messed up wrt this point. I just ran across my friends email detailing this Bauska rifle and he referred to his "BBK-02" as being the bigger action. I believe that the BBK-01 is just a std length action??? but not sure. The link to the other page which used to be there talked about the BBK-02 I believe, as I remember there being disagreement between the two pages leading me to wonder whether Olympic Arms is making both BBK-01 & BBK-02 actions??? I do have a copy of the Olympic Arms catalog at home with these in then, if I remember I will investigate further. Jeff Pfeifer

All, I'm sorry about the delay but we are very busy right now and time has been short. I confess that I have no new information regarding the UltraMag. We now have 3 in the shop and they are all marked -01 and have the large magazine and a .532 bolt face which can be opened up. There is no rhyme or reason to the -01/-02 designations as far as I can tell based on the -01 being the "magnum" action. Yes the BBK designation is as you remarked. These new "UltraMag" receivers are cast and will require substantial work on the outside as we found after completing the first one. The voids in the casting are a nuisance. I have e-mailed the powers that be at Olympic Arms for an explanation which hopefully they will be timely. Until then I will wait patiently. Anything that I receive will be passed on immediately. All, I just heard from Olympia Arms. According to the webmaster they do not distinguish between the -01 and -02 actions since they only deal with the UltraMag (01). He did however acknowledge the confusion between the two designations. His thinking is that nowadays the designations are interchangeable. I know this doesn't answer the question but this is what I received. He said to let us know that these are on the shelf and available for shipping immediately. Bill

Maybe the BBK-02's were the originals named to be reminiscent of the ZKK 602 Brno, another "02". Maybe the BBK-02 was the machined one and the BBK-01 is the newer one done by investment casting. Is this a step backwards, hence lowering the model designation from 02 to 01? ------------------
