Recoil pad for Ruger Login/Join

Does anyone have any experience with putting a pre-fit recoil pad on the Ruger 77, 375 H&H magnum rifle? I'm just wondering if the "pre-fit" really does or should I just have a 'smith install a grind-to-fit. I'm interested in the Pachmayr as I've had good luck with them.

Thanks.

Sometimes they fit well, sometimes they don't. I would just do the grind-to-fit routine and be done with it. If it doesn't fit just right, that's what you'll end up doing anyway.

I put a pre-fit Pachmyar decellerator pad on a laminate Ruger 7mm Mag and there was probably 1/32" extra (just enough to catch your fingernail on) around the lower third of the butt stock that I has to sand off.

I took it off the gun and sanded it down with a sanding block by hand, in about 20 minutes.

I used a limbsaver pad on my RSM .416 and it fit pretty well. Someone just said there was enough to catch a fingernail on and mine was just about like that. I like the Limbsaver best on hard kickers.
