Aglifter and others near College Station, Texas,

I am concluding 25 years away from Aggieland and don't know where y'all do your big bore shooting up there. Do I have to go all the way to Treashwig Road (Carter's Country) or is there a club I can join closer than Houston?

Just found out there's a new Gander Mountain in town. Maybe they can use a retiree for a while while I figure out how to work in an avocation teaching language skills, volunteer or otherwise. Moving back in January as we do the fine work of transferring household, two future Ags and Momma -- she's a chemist, a hunter and the smart one.

Gig 'em, and thanks

Barry T. Nagel Class of '82

I'm afraid I can't be much help -- I just shot whenever I went back to the ranch when I was still in the Promised Land. A&M has a skeet team and a pistol team -- I don't know if they have a rifle team, but you may want to contact the university and try to ask some of the coaches where they practice/if they know of anywhere.

Back in 1990 there was a range south of College Station on Hwy 6 just past the speedway. It was owned by Bill Wiseman who had a gun shop in Bryan. Don't know if it is still there - may be covered up by a sudivision by now.

Okay. Bill's place hasn't had anything for years -- you were right, Dr Scott. Champion Firearms, Burdett & Son and the Gander Mtn. guys gave me the bad news about gun ranges in the Aggieland area.

Guess Greenwood Gun Club membership had me spoiled down south of Houston. I can wander over there for a data point or two almost any time during the week and have it all to myself.

Basically there are a few places you can go to, pay the fee and shoot that day only -- no memberships. The most cost-friendly is a place near Sommerville ("towards Hearne near Snook, Texas") called "Gunsmoke", like Rusty searched for me. Champion has an indoor pistol range, and there may be some sort of skeet club outside Bryan, but that's it.

Well, at least I have all my loads worked up already.

GUNSMOKE north of Snook wants 10 bucks / hour. Or, you can be a member for 250 smackers per year! Greenwood is 75 bucks and I don't need an alignment to run the roads getting in ALL YEAR LONG.

(Of course that may be market price for skeet clubs, I dunno. Not a shotgunner and having up to 600 yards to play with sounds better to me.)

God bless the Greenwood Gun Club

BNagel

BTW no Allcorn anymore
