I've never tried the hog back style stock before so I thought I'd give it a try on my CZ 458 lott. This will be an open sight guns so I thought it might be better for that. I also read that it may help disperse the recoil better than the american style. I ordered it from the CZ website for $200

Anyone used this stock?

I'm also thinking of getting the NECG peep sight for the rear of the reciever. Has anyone used this sight? I also read that I may need to order a new front sight to use it. The current front sight on my rifle is the #6.

All of our CZ 416Rigby's have been "hogback" and I've found them very comfortable, even with scope use. I am not a stock expert but I think that the hogback may contribute to a slightly more erect head posture when shooting. That has been good for keeping eyebrows clean, too.

Try the stock and practice with it. You may find that your hold will have slightly different minute changes. Then, like many things in life, it is a matter of adjusting to the changes and enjoying what it has to offer.

I agree, my first CZ in 416 Rigby had the hogs back stock, I never found it a problem. I have had a few CZ's now with the American stock and I must say I prefer that style, even though I don't use scopes on any of 'em. I have 416 Rigby, 458 Lott and 505 Gibbs, also another in 458WM that I will build into a 404 Jeffrey.
Until my eyes tell me better, none will be scoped. The only scoped DG rifle I have is my custom Win Model 70 in 375 Weatherby, it has a 2-7x32 Bushnell Elite.
I think you may like your choice.

Cheers.

I have it on my .375H&H and like it a lot. Not exactly sure why, but I like it. I think it helps with the recoil by giving the gun a bit of roll, but maybe that's just in my mind. It does fit me well, which is good. I have no trouble getting a good sight picture with it, irons or scope.

Enjoy!

These "hogback" stocks are like W W Greener's "rational" stock.

High where it needs to be (the cheek) and after that it drops down.

The idea is that when the thing recoils that there isn't anything therefore striking the cheek and hurting the shooter.

A "Monte-Carlo" pretty much does the same thing as does the wedge shape cheekpiece on some classic British and European sporting rifles.

Only difference is is that the "hogback" is cheaper to affect than the "Monte-Carlo" or the classic wedge shaped cheekpiece.

All three do the same. But two look OK and the other, if you are not used to it, looks plain plug ugly.

Got the stock today. it went right on without any modifications. It definitely feels more natural, more comfortable, and the sights just align a lot better. The cheek piece feels a lot more comfortable than the american stock.

I'll see how it shoots.

I'm glad to see the question come up since I've often wondered the same.

It is not a direct comparison but when Winchester changed stock styles on the Model 70 Express I am not sure they did a good thing, for some of us, anyway. The Super Express, with its Monte Carlo design stock, seems more comfortable to me ("handles the recoil" better) than the Safari Express, with its straight comb. I can use either design with open sights or telescope, so I presume the combs are in approximately the same place and moving the butt of the stock down slightly with the Monte Carlo design causes the perceived benefit. The "hog's back" design of the CZ stock does the same thing.

I'd like to try one myself, and I just might, since the design seems to be unpopular here in the U.S. and rifles are out there on the used market at somewhat reduced prices.

I don't mind the looks all that much and I have never been all that convinced that the straight-comb stock is such a great thing for a rifle that is not fired much from prone.

LOVE the hogback/"Lux" Brno or CZ. Fits me like a BDL (even though I need LOP added on to).

Got out to shoot some 500grainers at 2100 fps.
I shoot off hand a lot better with this stock and the recoil seems just a hair less.
