Looking for more information on this caliber? Wondering if anybody has any data on velocity, pressures, bullet weights etc.

How about finding brass or reloading for this caliber. Anybody make brass, or can be brass be made from something else? Anybody make dies? What about reloading data for todays smokeless powders?

I ask because i have found one for sale and it looks rather interesting. But i would rather shoot it than look at it!

Thanks for the help.

I do not know that particular designation.

There was a 500 Black Powder Express which fired a 440 grain lead bullet at about 1500 fps. Essentially it was a 45/70 double rifle.

The 500 Nitro Express 3" and 500 Nitro Express 3.25" fire a 570 grain bullet at 2150 fps.

The confusing thing is that the 500 NE 3" and the 500 Black Powder Express are visually identical. But firing a 500 NE in a 500 BPE rifle will ruin the rifle.

Also, there have been occasions when riflemakers mismarked their barrels.
