Based on the fact all my guns and most of my worldly goods are in storage while my house is being built, and I'm stuck in this one br apt. Lot of things have ran through my mind, one thing that came to mind is why don't I build a 404 jeffery. Just a few of the questions that came to mind if I build one. Action - I would think a 550 cz to be an overkill, will a 98 action be more suited. Feeding - I have concerns on feeding, I built a 300 ultramag on Rem 700 when it first came out (for the life of me I don't know why I did that) feeding was a nightmare. I would think I would be able to get a mauser action to feed easier but want to get more information before I jump into this. Mag capacity with Mauser action - ? Comments please

I'm building a .404 Jeff on a MRC 1999 action now.....feeding is great without any changes at all. This action is suited to the .375 H&H

Hey Billy, I have the 404 Jeffery bug as well. Mine will be on a CZ550 mag action with a 24" Krieger barrel. I have a wildcat on it right now that is based on the Jeffery case using a bullet diameter of .400--those are kinda hard to come by. So Dan Pedersen has graciously consented to rebore and rechamber to 404 Jeff. I like the 404 because of it's nostalgia and because it carries less recoil with it than many of the bigger boomers. Also it can be loaded up a bit if a flatter trajectory is needed...probably won't load mine up much because of the increased recoil. But, hey, the 400 grainer at about 2150 fps is what made the Jeffery's reputation. Hopefully some of the other posters who have experience with it will jump in here. good luck with your project! Let us know how it turns out!

I am partway through having one built on a 1909 and in hindsight I probably would prefer to have done it on a cz 550. I think it may be better suited to the .404 than the M98, and may be able to stand up to more modern loadings Others with more experience may be able to state if that is right. Also It would have worked out cheaper on a cz than doing it on the mauser.

PC, Have you purchased your 404 Jeffrey barrel? I know of a Walther 24" C/M for $400 if interested. Cheers... Con

Con, Bob has ordered it for me I suspect when he gets back from Africa he will want some cash for it as it will have arrived I think. How far away is Bob from finishing your capstick ?? At the minute I have gone a tad cold on my .404 project....hopefully I will get my "mojo" back again

PC, Good to see we're both waiting for Bob to get back, loved the note on his shop front! Capstick is going slowly, but with winter coming on I've got the hots to finish it off and chase some deer. When Bob gets back I'm dropping off some dummy rounds for him to get started with. I've also picked up a Winchester Featherweight in 243W (push-feed naturally ) I want rebarreled/rechambered to 250 Savage. I've also found a Douglas 577 barrel for $200 that I'm thinking of picking up for a future project. Not sure how I'll hide that from the missus Take care... Con
