PfhorrestWhich .416?
As far as I know, there exists a .416 Remington, .416 Rigby, .416 Weatherby, and a .416 Ruger. Which of these has an advantage over the others?
As far as cost is involved, I have no problem with that.
Thanks for the input in advance.

jimatcative got 2 .416's... 1 a winchester m70 crf, 416 rem mag... the other a tip burns-made .416 taylor... both very differnt.. the .416 taylor was built as a truck gun, short, fast, and if i dinged it, i won't care.. the winchester has a great piece of wood on it... i shoot cast 350 grain in the taylor and factory 400 gr barnes solids in the rem mag...

WhitworthThere's a thread below this one that discusses the pros and cons of the various .416s........have a look!

BuliwyfAll the .416's are excellent choices. I'll mention the .416 Hoffman which was the forerunner to the .416 Remington.
I like the case design (sharp shoulder and no belt) of the .416 Rigby along with the case capacity and lower operating pressure of the Rigby.

jeffeossoI've had
416 rigby (same a webby, if you load it)
416 rem (same as hoffman)
416 taylor
416 AR
I haven't seen any meaningful ON GAME performance difference between 2600FPS and 2250FPS muzzle..
since the 416 ruger is the same capacity as the rem, it will be the same deal, all over.
The rigby/webby cases are huge, and require a larger rifle for the same number of rounds down
the AR/Ruger/Taylor all fit in standard length actions ... honestly, in terms of capacity, the AR beats them, but its a cat's whisker difference
if you are willing to take "just" 2400fps, the 416 ruger/rem/AR are going to be your best bets, with the ruger and ar fitting in standard length cases, at reasonable pressure..
416 taylor can get there, but at max loads

gumboot458Jeffe has it pegged .... A big point IMO is the Ruger or AR will get the Rem/Hoffman velocities with the same pressure , but with the extremely common standard action ...............Also for lefties the 416 Ruger will be a great round ....
I just wish it had a belt
