You could use Savage 210 like I did for
12GA FH, but if your doing that might as well make it 12GA FH as brass is lot cheaper,
although I could change 12Ga FH brass to 700
NE and do it for less than regular.Ed.

If you really want a bolt action and have the loot, buy a Heym .600 Ne bolt action rifle and rebarrel it. That aught to run about 11K. Seriously, go single shot. Apparantly Waffenfabrik Hein makes a Webley style action for about $2500. You should figure spending about 7K before it goes boom.-Rob

msorenso-yes you can make a 700NE on
a Savage 210. Rim is same diameter as 12ga,
Base is .020 smaller.Could make cases from
our 12ga brass, or use regular 700NE brass.
You have to get heavy 700 barrel, and heavier
bigger butted stock asnd recoil pad.Ed.

Have you looked into the price and availability of 700 NE brass and componet bullets? I'd go 600 Overkill in a repeater before a single shot 700 NE any day. The 600 can be put together for much less$, and I seriously doubt you'll find it lacking for power!

paul H yes I am well aware of 700ne ammo.I plan to get one of those as well.
Ed can you build me one of these? As long as it can fire both 700 ne and the ones you make that would be great!

Just saw a ad in SCI magazine for a .600NE bolt action by Heym. They now want 15K for one. Now there is a solid base for a .700NE repeater.A even better move would be to rebarrel to a 12 Ga From Hell 3" short. Wonderf if they ever got the feeding problems worked out.-Rob

Happy New year

Very interesting topic.
Can a 12Gauge case handle the pressure?
What kind of pressure level do you expect in a 700?
What about FPS...1300 - 1400?

Alternatively, what caliber can be made of a 20gauge...

I am very interested in this, it could be a future project for me..

Where can I buy 12 GA or 20 GA cases?

Looking forward to your comments..

M

PS Where can I read more of such projects?

VKG--700 NE loads are about 35,000 psi,
and gets a1000gr bullet to about 2000 fps.
Our 12 ga cases made from BMG brass will take
any pressure you can use in a gun.I am loading
my 12GA FH on the Savage210 to 35,000,
Rob is loading it on Borchardt action 60,000.
20 guage is close to 600NE.Ed.

Ed,
Is this conversion tough to do?? My ultimate goal it to have it change to the caliber then put a nice custom wood stock on as well. Which stock would you recomend? Also who makes the barrel for the conversion

msorenso--Takes a little work. Barrels,
threads, chambering, inleting stock..
You will have to get heavy stock and inlet to fit action as singleshot.will need a bedding insert and barrel recoil ring like mine or a barrel recoil lug.Action will need loading port opened, bolt stop changed, different ejector.
Can get 700 barrels from Pacnor. Here is pic
of big barrel and original Savage barrel..Ed.

Just as a guess what would you expect to pay a smith to do this.. Does this require a special smith?

You'd have tofind smith with 700 reamer,
and who does big bores.Probably cost least
a grand, plus your gun, barrel and stock.
Don't know for sure as I don't have others
do my stuff.Ed.
