Horneber finally sent me the 600 overkill brass samples after a year. The dimensions are on the plus side, but fit the chambers of both rifles. They are headstamped RG-600 Overkill and look very nice! I intend to give him the go ahead to make the entire order in February!-Rob

Well- Dieter is on notice that he needs to finish this order. He's heard from a bunch of us about it and knows what he has to do now. I will test fire the brass this weekend at incremental power levels up to Proof level and if it holds Ok will tell him to proceed. Looks like he held all the dimensions pretty close this time. It's not an easy thing to do to define dimensions and make a new cartridge to them that works the first time.-Rob

Ed- The VIRGIN brass seems to have slightly less capacity than Fritz's Lathe turned brass. However, once I fire it I'm sure the capacity will increase. I'm doing that this weekend. My fireforming load is 157 grs of IMR7828, Fed 215 and a 900 gr Woodleigh softpoint. Loaded rounds seem to chamber and eject very nicely! I'll measure water capacity on fired cases on monday. If everything works out well I'm going to ask Dieter to reduce the belt to case head dimension by about .001 or .002 and go ahead with the rest of the run.-Rob

Ed- Fired it last night. WoW WEE! I used 156 grs of H414 and a 900 gr woodleigh. This was in the GMA action rifle. Didn't have the chrono working but it was HOT! Brass chambers and ejected beautifully. Fired four rounds, scared the heck out of the on-lookers and went home. Very Very pleased! I told Dieter to back the headspace off by .001 and make 1100 cases. He says they will be completed in Feb. He was very pleased to hear of these results. Been a long project! I took the measurements but left them at home. I'll post them tonight along with some data on the fired case volume!-Rob

Damn...

I still want a nice 577 tyrannosaur in the distant future, just because it has the name of my favorite animals and for bragging... but 600 OK is a bit too hardkore for me to even contemplate right now.

Rob, are you willing to post pics of either of your 600 OK's? If not, I understand, but there are several of us who would really enjoy photos. Thanks.
