Just received a couple of boxes of the 470 (.474) Barnes Banded solids....these look good! Mike at NF e-mailed me and said that the cup points are a few weeks out yet. I'll be loading some of the Barnes to try in my Merkle double...probably start with 85-86 gr of RL 15 with the foam filler. I'll post the velocities, accuracy, etc. when I get them to the range. For the Barnes fans here....they look like they have another winner.

I will definately be interested in your results. I ordered some of the 458 and 470 Banded Solids to give a try..hopefully they will be in next week.

What type of foam plug do you use...can these be ordered some where???

I also spoke with Mike on the CUP Points for the 470...hopefully he will be making some soon...If any of you guys need some give him a call and let Mike know...it may make the run sooner...that would be a good thing!

Thanks, Jim

Jim...I've already talked to Mike....he said maybe 2-3 weeks on the 470 CP's. I am, at present, using foam from a gun case padding...the grey stuff that is pretty typical. I did order some #2 size Kynoch stuff to compare to the foam I use...have'nt got it yet. I cut mine by using a cutoff piece of an old steel golf shaft.....it measures .58" in dia. and I think my plug length is around 1 and 1/8". Fits nice and tight. I shook the first few I did rather vigorously to see if I could get the powder to move....it didn't. I'll compare the velocity of the Woodleighs to the Barnes with the same powder charge, etc. I'll post it when I'm finished.
