Im interested in a 416 remington magnum. However researching on the internet I can't seem to find any factory rifles that are chambered in this caliber. Yet it is a common (for big bores) factory loaded catridge. Why is this so, and is the only option getting it custom built? Mors Certa Sed Hors Incerta

Remington, Dakota, CZ, and Weatherby offer rifles in .416 Remington. I'm sure there are others I'm not thinking of, but those are the ones that immediately come to mind

The .416 Remington is a new(2008) addition to CZ's Safari Classic series and will set you back about $2500. You can order one from Remington's Custom Shop for ~$1800-$2000. I haven't checked lately, but Weatherby used to offer it in thier synthetic stocked DGR, and again you'd be looking at about $2500 or so. Obviously, a Dakota is going to be a good bit more, probably $6000-$8000 depending on wood and options. You might also keep a close eye on AR, Guns America, and other auction sights, as Winchesters and other makes occasionally pop up at good prices. Keep in mind, too, that any 375 length action is pretty much just a rebarreling job away from being a .416.

Keep in mind that any .375 H&H can easily be converted to .416 Rem....... "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid." JWP If stupidity hurt, a lot of people would be walking around screaming. Semper Fidelis "Building Carpal Tunnel one round at a time"

The best .416 are made on a 98 Mauser action or a pre 64 M-70 Win action and in that order IMO. Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com

Just wait and get a .416 Ruger when it is a factory rifle and you will be riding the crest of progress.

IMO they are excellent rifles. I don't know what the new upcoming Winchesters are about but I bet they too will be decent choices as they are control feed ala pre 64s..It will depend entirely on quality control IMO.... I have 416 Rem Mag M70 Safari Express I purchase around 2000 and as I have stated in many different posts, it is the most accurate rifle I own. It has taken buffalo and plains game and consider it an excellent rifle. Jim "Bwana Umfundi" NRA

I'll second that sentiment. I bought mine in 2001, and it was easily the most accurate big bore that I have ever owned. I'm still kicking myself for being talked out of it by a collector... Cheers, Dave. Aut Inveniam Viam aut Faciam.

Can't beat the cartridge. Had Bill Wisemann build one with a synthetic stock for less than $5,000. Love the rifle (ugly as it may be with it's synthetic stock). However, leaving for the Selous in two weeks and just got back from range today checking zero. I love a rifle that will put them in the same hole. No excuses.
