BusMaster007, I bought mine about three weeks ago. It is a 700 bdl ss and I love it. The recoil to me is not bad at all. In fact my 15yr old son enjoys it. I did have one problem with it. It will not eject loaded rounds if two or more are in the magazine.(cycleling the action). It has been sent back to the factory and I am waiting for it's return.

That's good & bad news. I hope they discover the problem with your rifle. Probably nothing too mysterious, but, would you post what it was when you find out? I came up with a plan for shooting this new rig. Based on the first thread about the '.375 RUM loads' that ultimately convinced me to go for it over the H&H; and the horror stories about the kick that I've heard in the last few days... I've decided to take my Beretta 1201FP shotgun with 3-inch slugs, then the the Remington 870 Super Mag with 3 1/2-inch Turkey loads; and THEN fire the .375! That should work me into a real, nice Magnum sized headache in a few rounds, don't you think?

Saeed, that's what I needed to hear about the cartridge! When the rifle I paid for is finally located and in my hands, I'm quite sure I WILL be having some fun! I'll report back at that time. Thank you, Gentlemen.

Excellent, diesel_dude. I'll do that soon. What's YOUR perception of the recoil of this round?

BusMaster007, You have chosen a great cartridge. You will find you don't need a muzzle brake - I did not put one on my second rifle, which I have been using for the past few years. Since I started using my 375/404, my PH has stopped saying "wait for him to give you a good angle" each time we see a buffalo bull. Now all they says "shoot him anywhere" knowing full well even if shot up the rear end, the bullet will penetrate all the way to the neck. I recommend you use only bullets that are made of solid copper - like the Barnes X and JS Customs, or those with a solid shank, like the Trophy Bonded. Around 2700 fps seems to be a perfect velocity for all hunting purposes.

I'm waiting on an answer from Remington AND my 2004 catalog...tick-tock. How many years has Remington produced the 'non-embellished' 700 BDL in .375 RUM? Seems like not too many, or not as many as the 'fine-line engraving' version. I'll take the slightly rare version, please! Seriously, I wonder how long it will take my FFL's distributor or one of the employee's to locate and score the model I paid for.

The 2004 catalog only lists the 375 ultra in the LSS. I did buy one one in stainless syn.

I would not worry about recoil until you have tried it. As long as you mentally know that you are the master of the gun and it will not hurt you, recoil will not be a factor. You will feel it, but you have to know that will pass in a second. Guns are like dogs - they can smell fear. If you are afraid of it, it will hurt like hell. As corny as it sounds, sometimes it helps to tell yourself this right before you shoot. If I can feel I'm starting to flinch during a shooting session (especially with large handguns), I'll take a mental pause just before the squeeze to remind myself that I am in control and this can't hurt me - then the next few shots seem to flow real easy. Recoil and the bad effects from it are 99% mental for me. Get your mind set right and the rest will take care of itself. You have the right idea with shotguns - shoot a round of trap with hotrod 3 1/2" turkey loads, and the rifle will not be bad at all! I'll say this - those clays are truly pulverized when hit by 2 ounces of #6 high velocity shot!! I know this. I use a light Benelli Nova with 3 1/2" loads and that thing can be a real brute. maxman

I'll add to what maxman said. Having shot a number of rounds in the 4-60 ft lb range, I can say the more confident you feel, then the more relaxed you are, and you can absorb the recoil, down through your body. This of course assumes a somewhat proper form. But even with fairly good form, if you're afraid and tense, then the shock seems to be much more localized; you want to try to share it with as much muscle mass as possible. Watch the T-Rex videos. There's one guy in there, is that Walterhog?, a little on the robust side, pigmentally challenged hair, he really, really shoots that thing. Yes, it hurts like hell, but he's right there taking it. And he's closer than anyone else I saw to being ready for a follow-up shot. Of course, a 270 @ 2900 is nothing like a 750 @ 2400 or whatever insane number. But it's a good example of someone knowing this really is going to be powerful, but having the guts to stand behind it and do it.
