I'm about to make a gunpowder order from Powder Valley and because my left handed Zastava Mauser in 458 Win Mag is due in next month,

What powder do I order?

I've decided on the 450 grain Northfork bonded softs and flatpoint solids for my do everything bullets.

I'd like to run 2200 - 2250 fps

You and me both really appreciate AR for these kinds of questions.

I learned here that AA2230 is the one and only to use. Max loads, Lee neck crimp die.

I got this info from Ledvem and others and they are right.

RL7 Frank. Do a search, I believe I was using 66 grains, but verify that.

BenchMark 2 powder. Made in Australia and is suitable for varied temperatures.
I use the Woodleigh 458Win 480grn bullets along with a variety of 450grners.

The 458 Win Mag...a great do-it-all African round. Mine was just delivered yesterday....a real live pre-64 Winny!

This is a link to some work Michael458 did with the 458 Win and Lott. NOt sure how the CEB vs North Fork will go but if they are even close Michael might have some good suggestions for you on this .pdf.

I would love to have a 458 Win and shoot the 450s out of it; a very capable cartridge. Good Luck!

I have been using 72gr AA2230 behind 500 grain bullets and have taken several elephants with that load. I get 2,150fps from a 24' barrel. Very accurate. You should get your target velocity with 450gr bullets.

I'd add H4895 to the possible powder list for a 458Win-450gr

I had not done 458 Winchester or 458 Lott load data in many years, with the coming of the B&Ms those have been retired. However, there were so many questions about the BBW#13s in those two cartridges last December I took it to task. I did nothing special--found a manual, I think Barnes, picked some of the heaviest loads and loaded 450/420 BBW#13s in the 458 Winchester. I found some really good loads to look closer at using TAC, X-Terminator, AA-2230, and becoming one of my favorite powders IMR 8208. Velocities with a 450 BBW#13 ran from 2311-2341 fps with these powders in a 24 inch barrel. Drop this data a grain or so with the North Forks, and you will very easy reach your 2200-2250 fps goal with any of these. If you want, you can work your way up from there. The loads I used were not pressure tested, they are not starting loads, but more towards the top end, so beware. None gave the first signs of any issues in one of my Winchester M70s.

Thanks guys, I ordered 4 Lbs of AA2230 along with some other powders that I need (H4350 and H4895).

It looks like the AA2230 will also work with my 45.70.
