Hello folks,

I'm working on a new cartridge based on a 375 caliber bullet of 300 grains which will be launched at a muzzle velocity of 4000 fps. It will probably based on a 50BMG case. I hope it will become the new all around big game round in Africa. After the Short Magnum frenzy, I thought that there might be a niche for ultra ultra huge thunder boomer magnums... lol gunsmile

Anyways, I'm having a blast!!! jump

The 50Bmg has been necked up and down to every calibre mate. The 375 version in Australia is called the 375-50 Jongmans which I think they loaded to 3600fps with 300gn due to powder selection here.
Also there was a member here who had the '375 Mach V'- another version but loaded much hotter. In fact I think his user name might have been Mach V if you are interested to find out more.

Sorry, the 10,669 FPE your round develops will take a case with 308 grs of powder...more than the 50 BMG. Even if a 250 gr capacity would do it, you will be 50% higher than the 300 RUM in expanzion ratio and shoot out the bore pronto.

However, it can be done with a 375-510 sabot while increasing your velocity to 4400 fps. The 500 A-square case would get you to 3800 fps and fit into a Weatherby Action while reducing recoil 30% below the A-square load. Expansion ratio would be the same as the 308 Winchester and the bore will last longer than you will!

Fill 'er up with Reloader 7 and hang on tight...

Your way behind, its been done a million times, nothing new here...Now try necking down a 50 BMG case to a Phonograph needle and then you get some real velocity, but I doubt if any of you pink cheeked neophites even know what a phonograph needle is! troll

Ray,

Some years beack, there was an article in some gun rag, about wildcating gone wild. The subject was as you proposed, phonograph needles for projectiles. The real problem with this type of projectile, is the neck, it is so small that you would have to load the powder through the flash hole, thumbdown then seat the primer on the now loaded case. jump

It would get the heart rate up.

Klaus at State Arms built rifles for a while in .375/50 BMG. Barrel live was short, under 100 rounds, but it was fast. I think he used his own custom bullets for it. Dunno about accuracy, but it was fast.
