I could help you with a 500 Jeffery, sorry but can't help with the Gibbs. Someone will chime in soon, lots of folks getting back from DSC, unfortunately some with the flu ...

Chuck

OK thanks. And just for bragging rights, not that I would do it, what is a modern maximum hell roaring brag about load for the Gibbs? I have heard 600 at 2600?

BUMP...
Does anyone shoot their 505 Gibbs at 2600+ with the 600 grainers? I might like to try a few at this level -- just spoke to my gunsmith this morning and my Gibbs is getting near completion. All of the metal work is done, just have to stock it now. If anyone has load data for these types of loads, I would appreciate seeing it too -- maybe through PM?

Sounds great. The whole point of using a 505 Gibbs would be to USE the capacity, not just load it down to levels of the 500 AccRel (Rigby case in a standard length action).

A velocity of 2600 fps with 600 grain bullets sounds about right for the Gibbs capacity. If you go down to a level of around 450 grains you will need around 3000fps to utilize the capacity. That should get everyone's attention, too, something like firing one and a half 378Weatherbys at once. It takes "all around plains game" rifle to a new level.

Yep,

Sounds like too much fun..no never loaded mine that hot for good reason. a 600 grain bullet at 2250 in my gun is close to earth shattering for me. You guys have fun...let me know how your next dr visit goes.

525gr. Wooldleighs, Jamison brass, Federal 215 primers, and 136gr. of H4831SC gives around 2200fps. out of my factory barreled CZ.

I'm with you Ed, a 570g at 2300 fps is enough for me and still fun out of my 500 Jeffery. Another 100 or 200 fps and the fun index is near zero.

No help for your question...but I shoot a .500 NE and I am like the others (but worse)...570 grains at 2150 fps is enough for me. I take 2 Advil 30 min before a session even at that.

Have fun with 600gr at 2600...whoooh!!!

Gunslinger, I have the same rifle from the custom shop also with high end wood. I have it scoped with a Leupold 1.5x5 Matte finish in factory rings w/o any issues at all.

For loads I use Norma brass, Fed 215's, RL22 powder and Hornady 525gr DGX bullets. The powder charge ranges from a starting/practice load of 130grs to a top end load of 134grs. Believe me, with the 134gr loading @ 2350fps and 6200 ft/lbs you won't want much more. At that velocity, those 525's are well expanded to about quarter size, quite impressive actually. I load them in a single stage RCBS Rockchucker press.

OK everybody how do you spell FLINCH, just a slow smooth pull on the trigger keep the sights just below the bullseye and let it happen. At 2600fps with a 600gr. Bullet that is not for the feint of heart. To get a good zero you will have to start from the bench then you can adjust your loads accordingly. Good luck and let us all know how it works out for you. What do you hunt with such a load.
That's just mind boggling .

I went up to 2400. That was enough for me. I shoot them regularly at 2270. However from looking at recovered bullets I think the 600gn Woodleigh would give better penetration at 2150 or therabouts, so I am actully going to load my 600gn rounds down a bit from what I have been using. I did pck up a few boxes of 525gn Barnes TSX, and they can stand a bit more velocity, so I will try them at around 2600. Should be fun!
