The magazine box is set-up for in-line cartridge alignment with a spring guide clip fit into the right side receiver rail that retains the cartridge in the box for proper alignment, feed and function. The action and entire bolt is case color hardened, the receiver ring is matted and all serial numbers match including the magazine box. The Deluxe piece of wood with an ebony forend tip, point pattern checkering, cheekpiece, horn grip cap and it remains as solid as inletted and finished in 1927-28. The entire gun is original with 90% original barrel blue and overall this gun is in excellent plus condition considering it is 81 years old. This piece is the proper weight of 11 lbs. 5 oz. and has a 14 1/2" LOP over a 7/8" Silvers pad. The strong point to this piece is the superb overall condition with a bore like new. I have seen my share of these 500 Jeffery Schuler's but none with this quality of wood, bore condition and overall condition on both the metal and wood. This is pre-war Suhl, Germany tough quality that will still serve its intended purpose in the game fields of Africa. There is about 100 of these 500's built by August Schuler and I am sure there is very few better examples that this very piece. Here is one hell of a nice user plus it has collector condition from muzzle to butt.

What a gorgeous rifle! Thank you Dr. Berry for the post. If only Herr Schuler had had you there to correct all the problems with the design of the .500 Schuler Jumbo (12.7x70) and subsequent .500 Jeffery....what a pity. And, imagine the greatness that Westley Richards would have achived if only you were there to guide that firm away from the .425 Westley Richards and last but far from least what would John Rigby have aspired to become if only you had only been there to guide him away from that hideous 45 degree shoulder on his .416 Rigby and replace it with a 20 degree shoulder....what was he thinking???? Doing good ain't got no end does it Dr. Berry? What's your next stop after Missouri?

Buliwyf, You are finally learning something, I have done some good. Yep, doin' good ain't got no end: It is its own reward. As for me "and MO?" That is a double entendre, stands for "Missouri and more." However, I will be lounging about in St. Louis a bit next month. Forget about it. That is a museum quality shooter, eh? Herr Schuler did his best to make a functional rifle. The 12.7x70mm (500 Schuler) is a wee bit better cartridge than the not-quite-identical 500 Jeffery. The straight stack of three rounds in the box, and some sort of clip on the right feed rail of that standard M98 Mauser: Looks reliable for feeding. A 4th cartridge would be fool-proof to load into the bottom of the box after the first round is chambered by working the bolt. 4 shots. I really like that barrel length and taper. It should balance like a dream, and feel light even at 11#5oz. dry weight. I am shooting for an equally well balanced 10-pounder for my next 500 Mbogo. 500 Schuler and 500 Jeffery both have CIP MAP of 3300 bar = 50,820 psi. 500 Schuler twist = 1:17.7" (450mm) CIP 500 Jeffery twist = 1:20" (508mm) CIP The Schuler has the edge in twist as well as cartridge specs. I would load it with 570-grainers at 2150 to 2200 fps, like a 500 Nitro Express, and make that standard Mauser action last forever.

Having closely examined a schuler .500 before, that device on the right rail controls the feeding from the single stack mag. I copied that design on a .500 Jeff I built and it really works beautifully. I'd love to own that gun!-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

My good friend did own that gun until very recently and I have shot it. what a hoot! The recoil is very mild for a gun that powerful. That is one great rifle. Steve
