Encore recoil rips off forend Login/Join

I posted this once before, but still need help.

I have a Encore with a 20" stainless barrel chambered in 510 whisper. It shoots a 700-950 grain bullet at 1050 fps. Since the gun is only 7.5 pounds including the scope, and I can not use the suppressor all the time because I live in WA, the recoil is doing bad things to the gun. It has ripped off the bipod adaptor twice, broken two scopes, and most recently, stripped the forend screws.

I was able to fix the scope and bipod adaptor problems, but finding a way to keep the forend from siding around eludes me. I made a barrel band to replace the front screw, and this holds it on the barrel, but it can still slip. Is there any way to keep the forend from slipping? I can not have dovetail mounts installed due to the thin wall of the barrel. I tried adding several pounds of lead to the hollow stock, but that is a poor fix in my opinion. I made a muzzle brake for the barrel, but since the bullet outweighs the 30 grain powder charge so much, it is hardly effective. Any ideas? Thanks.

Try T/C's QR fore-end.

I don't know why you would have this problem. I have an Encore in 416 Rigby and do not have any of the problems you mentioned. But I also have a Mercury recoil suppressor in the stock to reduce the recoil. Give it a try.

The trouble with the quick disconnects is that they seem to use the same wimpy screws that the regular forend uses. The contender uses screws that are twice as heavy. I will look into the recoil reducer though.

A 950 grain bullet moving at 1050 fps has a bit more momentum than a 400 grain rigby bullet moving 2370 fps. How heavy is your Encore rifle with the 416 rigby barrel? Do you use a bipod with your Encore? I think the bipod is part of the problem, but I want to find a solution while still using it. Thanks.

ranb40, I don't use a bipod. That very well may be your problem. My Encore with every thing on it weighs 8Lb and a few onces. I wish you luck. Big Grin
