I need a new syntetic stock for my CZ 550 Mag. in 416 Wby caliber. I know about the CZ Express stock from McMillan, but I tend to order the syntetic stock made by ( or for) AHR.
AHR uses it in calibers up to the 600 OK so it should be sturdy enough Smiler

Anyone with experience regarding these AHR syntetic stocks out there..???
How is it compared to the CZ Express stock??

Regards
Ulrik Hentzer

I just got one of these from a guy in the US and I "thought" that it would adapt to my Brno ZG-47 in 9.3x62.....it won't.

I tried a Brno 21 small ring action in it and the geometry of the rear part of the action is wrong, so, I either buy a CZ-550 or sell this stock, the nicest synthetic stock of the many I have had/do have.

I was under the impression, correct me if I am wrong, that these will only accept the REGULAR 550s, NOT the magnum action version which I assume your .416 is? I thought that Micky recommends using their "Safari" model on the larger action?

I also notice that they no longer list the AHR version for sale and wonder if it is still in production as I "think" the latest AHR rifles may be using a different synthetic stock? Maybe "Bitterroot" can chime in here and tell us the straight story on this.

Anyway, again, this particular Micky is THE nicest synthetic stock I have yet handled, the Micky Hunter's Compact Edge and the D'Arcy Echol's Legend ones are also right up there.

I have now ordered the AHR stock through Wayne at AHR. He sent me some photos but I am not able to post photos - dont know how - anyone who can/will post them for me if I send them on an e-mail??
The stock suits the CZ 550 Mag action and should be very strong, AHR uses it for the 600 OK.

Dont know anything about the AHR stock, but have a Mcmillan on my ****##$$%% NYATI. Has held up well and other than butt ugly has been just fine. I tend to believe the AHR stock will work just fine for you.-Rob

How have the CZ 550 laminated stocks held up on the big cartridges?
My Lott has a walnut stock that is glass bedded and is doing fine.
Just curious!

Thanks Rob.
What kind of front barrel recoil lug do you have on the Nyati with the McMillan stock? Do you have it bedded into the foreend with a screw through the foreend into the lug?

Thanks
Ulrik

The AHR fiberglass stock is patterned after the classic Jerry Fisher design. This is a proprietary stock made exclusively for AHR. It features a 1-inch decelerator recoil pad, sling studs, and molded cheek piece.

We have three fiberglass stocks available. Two for the 550 30-06 length action and one for the 550 magnum action. The quote that Sid gave is from our website which describes the original 30-06 stock made for us by McMillan. We have a few of these left. The new stock is made by MPI to our specs and is a little different with longer LOP ( 13-1/2" ) and a different style cheekpiece. I think the MPI is actually stronger.
Our magnum action is also made by MPI. It has internal cross bolts and solid epoxy bedding around the action and full length in the barrel channel. We have them made with added weight to the butt for better balance. The photo above is an older style in that the new ones have an English style cheekpiece with shadow line. LOP on the magnums is 13-3/4".

If someone was building say a .340 on a CZ 550 Magnum with a lighter contour barrel, would it be possible to get the stock without the added weight in the butt? Also, what would be the price and delivery time.

Thanks in advance.

Buffalo- I make my own front recoil lugs machined to fit the barrel countour. They are attached to the barrel with two machine screws and Hi Force 44 soldered. The lugs are steel bedded into the stock after roughing up the fiberglass. I always bed the front lug first, then the action. No screws through the lug into the stock.-Rob

Wayne (AHR) is turning out some awesome rifles. I just hope that we can get him to expand his portfolio to include the PH actions when they arrive.

So, do you scrape the foam out of the butt end of those MPI stocks and epoxy-in an oak block to screw the recoil pad to?

That is what I did with the one I put on a Dakota 76 action.

Saeed has used the MPI stocks on his Dakota 76 rifles in .375/404J rifles.

Do these MPI stocks still require major fiberglass boatbuilding and Corvette bodywork skills to be applied to them as they come from the maker?

They could always be made to do, but ... Whew! What a chore that can be sometimes!

Does it depend on whether you got the reject blank like I did?

I am not sure where Wayne got the synthetic stock for my 700 AHR, but it works great and handles anything I can shoot out of the 700. It is pictured on the AHR website in the 700 ahr section. It is the stock on the gray ghost, and can be any color of course.
