The lug seats show no sign of set back. I would imagine close fitting heat sinks were used to keep the heat contained to the area forward of the bolt lock up. It is a survivor, still in great shape well over 100 years after rolling off the line and it appears to have seen a fair bit of use.
Marvelous rifle, I'm a bit of a Fanboy of Westley Richards, I sure would love to have a rifle like this !
