I have wanted a 404 for a long time. This original one came up for auction. I Know it has been restocked. I Think it would cost me 1200-1500 to build this gun. I figure the the fact it is an original Jeffery action and Barrel adds 1000.00 to the price.

Did I do OK?

Maybe the question should be "Am I going to get that much enjoyment out of this, and are my next of kin going to sell it for $25.00 at a garage sale some day?". Enjoy it, shoot it, take it to Africa, it will make me green with envy, OK?

Absolutely you did good.

Now go to www.gunstocks.com and buy the original Mauser Sporter Type B stock (it is in the "specials" section, $250.00) and lose that American Classic P.O.S. stock currently on it. Then you will have a rifle that will look like it came from the Jeffery works.

Good show Guy!

Enjoy the rifle and don't worry about what it cost. That's water under the bridge.

Getting it to Africa is different ... that's planning [Wink]

I don't think you overpaid one dime. I also like the looks of that H&H you are bidding on.

Best,

John

If you are satisfied, then nothing else matters as long as it is accurate, and feeds and extracts....

Did it come with a pit helmet and a pair of mosquito boots [Big Grin] It look like a settler rifle?

Nice rifle. This escalates my own ideas about the a 404 built on a ZG-47 action even more.

Noma 203-B is a really nice powder for the 404 Jeffery.

Good luck

Super! Just simply super! Well done, that man, well done indeed. If it didn't come with a helmet, y'll just hafta getcherself one at tagsafari.com. Y've really got me fired up to restock the Parker, now, so it will look properly like yours. A round of claret in celebration for the house, by Jove. God save the queen.
