Peep sight for CZ Login/Join

Hi gang,

Just got a new peep sight for my 50 Alaskan. I am also thinking about putting one on my CZ 550 Safari. It seats perfectly on top of either bridge. There are two 8-40 screws spaced .500" apart that hold the sight. I think I would perfer to mount it on top of the front bridge instead. I just prefer the aperture to be further away from me. What do you think? Thanks.

Ming,

Is that the Jim Brockman Gen III sight?

It does look rugged, but is it set up to mount on a lever gun?

Hi Jim,

Yes, it's Brockman's latest peep sight and it mounts perfectly on top of my Marlin 1895. The sight has a flat bottom and it does indeed very rugged. I dropped the damp thing three times tonight and it did not hurt a bit. The aperture is screw removable and can accomodate different disks from other companies. Later.

Gents,
The Ashley Outdoors ruger backup sight will also fit the cz, requiring one to drill 2 holes, and to only tap one.

it's REALLY sleak, and on the CZs, you can replace the front blade with a tiny bit of work, with the MECG masterpiece front blades.

Hi Mingo,
On my new 470 I put an Ashley (Express Sights) Peep mounted forward on the quarter rib. The model is for the Ruger 77 and has a large peep. This still allows me to mount a 1.5 to 5 scope if required. It works awesome.
Take care,

470 Mbogo,

You got a good setup there my friend. I was thinking about a similar setup for one of my custom rifles. I was thinking about putting a Ruger No 1 quarter rib on the barrel of my custom CZ so I can use the clamp on Ruger style peep sight from NECG while I can mount a scope on the double square bridge.

I got a NECG Ruger peep sight on one of my Ruger No 1s and love it to death. It is a very high quality unit and it has a spring mechanism under the clamps and it fastens to the Ruger style dovetail solidly.

I am also using a couple of AO aperture sights and like them a lot. The only thing I don't like about the AO is the aperture diameter. It is a little too big for my taste. I like an aperture diameter of about .050" max. That's why I like to mount the peep sight forward so I can get a more precise sight picture.

Thanks!

That's a fine sight, but IMHO the last thing it needs is to be moved forward or have a smaller aperture.

If you are going to shoot at something moving, particularly if it is moving toward you and has teeth, you want a BIG hole to see through.

I dropped the aperture for my nasty weather rifle in my parts box 20 years ago. Oughta look to see if it is still there.

Small groups are all very well at the range or talking trash at the gunstore, but, when it comes to putting meat on the table in cover, 4 moa is better than you will ever need. And you oughta do a lot better than that even with a quarter inch hole to sight through.

Idunno . . . it looks awfully high to me and that means a reeaaallllyyyyy high front sight to bump into stuff with or catch on bush, etc. I used a Talley peep rear and was perfectly happy with it. It doesn't adjust for elevation but for DG that isn't much of a problem. Once you settle on a a 5000-6000 ft lb. load you can fix the front sight to whatever elevation you need and leave it there. Perhaps there are some fanatics out there who just can't leave a good load alone and must fiddle constantly with bullet, powder and sights but in my book a Big Killer is just that, not a twiddle toy. So IMO you should keep it low, sleek and simple and as the above post said, use a big aperature. If trouble comes calling you need to answer fast and to my mind that requires a ghost ring and nothing else.

I have spent an embarrassing sum of money on a similar project but with Kimber bases and a custom made aperture sight in an effort to duplicate a Sako with a peep sight that is a favored rifle. A Recnagel (sp) front sight was ordered from Germany of the banded type. Once installed, it resembled a European Olympic target rifle and stood so tall that it looked odd. I am now paying to cut it down or replace it and installing an island sight with a flip up aperture. It is mounted much lower than the action mounted sight on the scope base. I will try to send pics of the "now" and also the "then" when it is finished. I prefer the apeture sights but know too little about the options. It is a much overlooked great idea.

Try the Ashley peep. It sets lower and looks a lot sleeker than the brockman.
