While traveling on business up in the Northeast this week I made a little time to visit some gun shops looking for my elusive 404 Jeffery. I did not find a 404, but I did find a used Dakota 76 in 416 Rigby. The rifle looked brand new. It had nice wood, and felt great up on the shoulder. The price was $4750. I have never owned a Dakota product, but this seemed cheap. I did not buy the rifle, as I am still holding out for the right 404,...but this 416 Rigby sure had me thinking twice.
Is that a good price for a Dakota in 416 Rigby?
Thanks for the feed back.

TBD, In the Dakota 76 larger calibers, there is the Safari model, then the African model. The most obvious distinction to the African is the quarter rib, although you can order most options on most grades, so sometimes the differences are tougher to detect. That's a pretty good price for a Safari in 416 Rigby, in good to like-new condition. An African in the same caliber would probably go for $5,500-$6,500 in the same condition.

First Stop Guns has a mint condition 416 African with quarter rib and banded front sight plus some other goodies and excellent wood for $5K. Very nice gun!!!! I don't think the Safari grade is available in 416 Rigby but is in 416 Rem.

That is a great price for a Dakota. BTW, that was my 404 Jeffrey-it's a great gun, my selling it had nothing to do with the rifle's merits. Needed $$ for the big D (ivorce)
