I will answer this to the best of my ability. I think the early ones were marked Whitworth. I had a later one that came in a box as a Whitworth, but had the standard Mk X markings on it. It looked like the one in the ad, with the exception that mine had the floorplate release in the trigger bow, not on the side as the one pictured. I think I purchased mine around 1981 or so, can't quite remember now. Again, these are what I rememmber, not necessarily the last word. Probably a lot more knowledgeble people out there on this subject.
Mine was a great shooter, the only problem I ever had was I had to fix the floorplate latch as it tended to open and dump the shells in the magazine when it was fired.

Mark X built with Whitworth parts I believe. If you can get a picture of the front receiver ring and barrel just forward of the action you can tell. Should have an oval with Whitworth in the center and a castle on the barrel. This one has the cross pin release on the floorplate and I believe all of the real Whitworth rifles had the in the bow style.

Not a bad price though. I might have to dig under the couch for some change. Big Grin

As a general rule, people are nuts!

It was looking lonely with no bids so I thought I better post it here and stir things up! stir

Barrel band sling swivel and Whitworth stock so I was curious. His mentioning Manchester also piqued my curiosity. Big Grin

The scratches under the front receiver ring, in the wood suggest this gun has been used and not at all unfired .....but this may be irrelevant as it's incredibly rare to see a burned out 458 mag.

There is no reserve.....so hi bidder gets it.

Screw on a .375 Ruger barrel and have a pretty nice DG/plains game rifle. Those actions are fairly strong.....I had one in 257 Weatherby and used it prairie dogging.....it took everything I dished out.

It looks like $800 was the "Buy it Now" and no bids. It has been relisted.

It looks like a $650 rifle to me. The hankling marks are pretty heavy and deep. It would be nice to see more. My "guess", it is a Mark X.
Even at that I feel these rifles are the best value on the market. My .458 mark X shoots better than my Whitworth .458.
