I know, lever guns are evil and bad to a lot of you. but a 45 is big bore and it is just cool enough I had to mention it. It was something with a duck club or something, they called him last night to tell him he won. He might trade it for something else since he already has an older Marlin with the microgroove barrel and saddle stock, but who knows. We all like to share in each others gun joys so I posted.

Congrats to your stepdad! A free gun is always a good thing. Okay, not always, but almost always! Big Grin

Dago,

Congrats. I really like the one I won. It's really accurate with factory ammo, and it's easy to carry in hilly country. My son used it for our Idaho bear hunt in June.

Red,

Your step dad will like that Marlin. Which model did he get? I have the CB with 26" barrel. The guide gun is a very handy little bugger and I'd like one of those too.

It's no .458 lott but used on NA game it will be quite effective. I shoot mine a lot in silhouette matches.

I've got the Guide Gun (I'd love to play with the CB Wink ) powerful enough for anything i'd normally hunt and a hoot to shoot with every cartridge I've put thru it. Big Grin

Tell him congratulations and buy him a PAST recoil pad.

I don't know for sure which model it is, he said he thinks it is the one with the pistol grip stock. Right now he just has the hard plate on his older marlin and I have tried talking him into putting a pad on it or something but no doing. Smiler

I told him that now he'll have two we'll have to go on some pig hunts with them. My wife was standing there and said, "why do you need to go pig hunting with them?" they just don't understand. Wink

The 1895 Marlin is a fantastic carbine, one of the best for short to modest ranges on NA big game. Mine's the Guide Gun in .450 and it's my all-time favorite saddle rifle and for keeping in the truck when I'm out and about.

I've got a Marlin 1895 w/22" barrel & pistol grip in .45-70. They are well suited for pigs and black bears.
