Awwww, my 7 1/2 lb 375 Weatherby Rem XCR II is a sweet rig. TriNyte finish, synthetic stock, shoots factory 375 H&H 300g A-Frames at 2500 fps or the same bullet in 375 Weatherby handloads at 2800 fps. Recoil is but a maiden's kiss. XCR II is the rifle on top.

Regards,

Chuck

It certainly does. Wink

I like the .378 Weatherby so much I have two, one Deluxe and one Euromark. The .378 will flatten the grass in front of the bench for about 15-20 feet and knocked the chronograph over once, but they're by no means my hardest recoiling guns. Nor are my .416 or .460. I've shot several .338 Mags that were more unpleasant, mostly due to the lighter weight.

I have several larger caliber rifles. .470 Capstick, .500 A-Square, .510-505 Gibbs, .550 Mag. None bother me, even off the bench. I like big hand guns, too, for what it's worth. .460 S&W, .480 Ruger, .50 AE, .500 S&W...

But is there any rifle I wouldn't own? Sure. The ones I think are pointless. The .577 T-Rex belongs in that category, although I nearly bought the same one that's been passing from owner to owner for the last 10 years or so just because it was so hideous with its Coil Chek stock and just to say I had one. Lol

Personally, I love the look of a Weatherby Mark V Deluxe.

I had one in .7mm Wby for years and took a lot of game with it.

I'm just not sure if having the added velocity at big bore calibers is needed, or worth the extra recoil.

Also the expense for the cartridges is absurdly high IMO.

If I were to buy another Mark V, I would want it in something like a .240 or the 6.5-300. (or maybe another .7mm). LOL

But to each, his own.

Several years ago I owned a Weatherby Mark V w/o muzzle brake in 378. No desire to repeat that experience. Didn't care for the speed at which it came back at you.

3 shot groups at 50 yards ...

Not really ugly either is it

My go-to African rifles are 375HH and 500NE. This is after shooting 416, 458 and 470NE. 505, 577 and up are fine for someone else but I have no use for the abuse that adds nothing in clean kill shots.

No desire to own any rifle made by Weatherby, or any cartridge designed by weatherby

No double larger than a 500NE, but it is not because of recoil, but the weight of the rifle to have to carry day after day in 120 degrees.

At my age the answer is "another one" old

Recoil is abusive to old men but we get by with it, its the flight to Africa that gets us, thus the lighter calibers are simply more fun to hunt and shoot with..

Are there any big bore rifles you wouldn't want?

yup....lots of them. I'm fully comfortable with my .375 H&H and have no need or desire for anything larger.
