Can a model 70 in .416 Rem Mag be converted to a .458 Lott without major reconstruction? I know the barrel has to be replaced, but can it be done within reason?

I would think that changing the barrel would be the only major obstacle in this conversion.......

The feed ramp may need widening to accomodate the blunt round-nose softpoints and flat point solids.

The rails are a crap shoot. They may work just fine or not; try them first.

I did this very conversion three years ago. Other than the cost of the barrel it's NBD.

416 Rigby excluded, most folks think .458 and up when talking about big bores and DGR's.

........How could the 416 Rigby be classified any different than the 416 Rem mag , 416 Dakota, 400 H&H ,416 Taylor ,411 KDF ,404 Jeffries , 416/375 RUM , ect. ect...........From reading everything printed on this web site ,,,,20 plus years of my own experience,,,And other research I have done ,, I don,t think there is much real difference between the 416 taylor and the 470 Capstick./ Mbogo...Not if you count the # of times someone shoots a buffalo or bear or Elephant , ect.. The 50 calibers , do kill the truley Big animals faster.,.And knock them down more reliably.................BUT I TOTALLY AGREE ,,, if you want to spend time , effort and money learning stuff , ,.,.Get a whole slug of big bores...I did and still do .......For myself I have found the 416 Rem is pretty much a do it all rifle... Smiler
