There is a awesome use for big bore rifles if shtf happens which is looking that way more every day .The big bored are awesome on metal and stopping engine blocks .I figure those Barnes monolithic 400 grain .416 bullets would be hell on.motor blocks and other metal objects you need to take out.I Stoll have those 5000 410 grain Woodleigh bullets to they knock.Big holes .I just brought back.and saved the big.bores .They are so fun to shoot and make the 223-seem silly even the 308.We may not get to hunt elephants but one day these big guns may be the solution for hard.I heard weatherby brought out 460 rifles at the la riots out there.Don't go selling those big guns just yet I got it figured out !

To reliably stop an engine block, plan on using a 50 BMG on up. Best way to stop a vehicle is to take out the driver. Big bores would shine at that task.

I dunno. When I first got my 500 A-Sq I shot lots of stuff with it. . Most of the bullets I shot were 600 gr Barnes Originals . Both solids and 49k jacketed rnsn. Mostly with around 115 gr IMR 4320. One time I shot a long abandoned 1960s something Rambled from around30 yards. 1 shot smashed a front shock and ripped the shock mount from the frame. Then smashed a fist size hole into the side of the block, broke a cylinder and exited the other side of the block and sailed off into the tundra. That was in the late 80s. Turning a 200 lb rock into small shotrock was a 1 shot deal for it. I did learn Not to shoot 600 gr Monolithic solids in a rock pit. They do smash rocks but also ricochet. I was stationed with a guy that stopped a car on the Coast Guard base on Kodiak with his 358 Norma . 250 gr Hornady steel jacketed solid. . Back then Base Security wasn't very high teck. So when drunken joy riders from town would come tearin thru base housing and wouldn't pull over for the master at arms . The joy riders car got the 358 Norma stop. 1 shot destroyed the engine. Phil Shoemaker : "I went to a .30-06 on a fine old Mauser action. That worked successfully for a few years until a wounded, vindictive brown bear taught me that precise bullet placement is not always possible in thick alders, at spitting distances and when time is measured in split seconds. Lucky to come out of that lesson alive, I decided to look for a more suitable rifle."

I.know my.416 rem mag knocks the crap out of trees and cement blocks too .I.have yet to shoot the 410 grain Wooldridge bullets at any tree they didn't destroy under a foot wide in.a couple of shots .It's funny showing.people how much more power the big bored have over 308'and 223 I.think.they will go.through today's plastic cars like nothing.I am thinking of putting a blazer and flashlight on.My.416 for night shooting also.I want to experiment on different targets to see what is best for what material.I.shoot gallon water bottles and blocks of ice alot too see hyodroshock power of my 416 !

CTF, A little off the bigbore topic but where I used to live in the 80's our neighbors had a fruit stand. Around Halloween they had a truckload of pumpkins out front. At the night a group of local kids would drive up in their parents nice new Buick and steal a few. One night the kids pulled drove up and the oldest son of my neighbors ran out of the house with a shotgun. He pumped two shots into the trunk of the Buick yelling "there you go you little a$$holes explain that to your parents"! No one ever called to complain and no more pumpkins were taken. Not really. They would be better than no fire arm. As long as one has ammo for them. One is a lot better off buying more a lot more ammo for ones 22rf, 5.56 or 308. Then thinking about a big bore as a option.

Have to agree, a 5.56 round weighs a lot less than a big bore round. I also suspect that in a SHTF scenario 99% of vehicles will not be operational within 12 months. "For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind..." Hosea 8:7

A big bore is pretty good against lightly armed tresspassers and such. Against crowds and close range against people armed with guns? No way. Give me a 5.56 to .308 round in a reliable high cap rifle.

I figure if I can line four or five zombies up, my 500 Jeffery shooting 570g Banded Solids will not only do the job, I may be able to recover the bullets and reload them ... One of the NRA publications did an article on this subject a few months ago. It was aimed more at the big bore AR platforms such as the .458 SOCOM. It was interesting enough that I would recommend it for reading. Dave In 100 years who of us will care? An armed society is a polite society! Just because they say you are paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get you.

Not really into shooting cement blocks, cars etc but I have had a blast shooting whitetails with my 458. 350 gr Hornady bullets shoot quite well in my old 458. Lets a lot of blood out in a hurry. I'm sure whitetails taste much better than old Ramblers !

12gaFH with 32 OOB loaf would do great against multiple assaliants or a single Honda Civic filled with gang bangers! Follow up with solids for that through and through feeling! Rob, What powder charge would you recommend to propel that thirty-two count load of 00 buckshot from the 12GaFH? Just taking notes. Never know when I might have to stop a Honda Civic full of gangbangers. Maybe even a Toyota Technical.

RIP- as much Red dot as you can fit in the case and still get it to chamber under all that 00B and a wad! I’d add a screw on duckbill muzzle break for more horizontal dispersion assuming I had a permit for a Toyota Technical! Id hate like hell to kill a kid for stealing pumpkins or water melons, and had he done so he would be sitting in San Quiten or whatever, that's one stupid SOB IMO.. Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com
