Tim,
It is just a gun nut thing, and what Mac said. The Ruger No.1 is about as strong and reliable as any gun can be, and can be about as accurate as any also, with proper attention to details.

Some people can reload them pretty fast too.

You seem to have found the answer to being shorter in a short action rifle. I am cursed with being left handed and have not found an affordable answer to this problem. There are so few & boaring calibers in LH guns produced that we are forced to pay for custom guns in order to get what we want.
