I heard a rumor of a bolt gun from Europe in 14.5x114 at SHOT. Can anyone confirm this?

Anyone know where to get brass for this bad boy? (brass cases, not steel)

I don't know anything about the 14.5 at the SHOT show, but I am certainly interested.

If anyone knows anything, I'd love to hear about it.

I know that Old Western Scrounger has some 14.5 casings, but I think they are all steel. Their website is www.ows-ammo.com

Yes, it's the Russian 14.5mm Heavy Machinegun.

It would be wild to have a rifle in this cartridge, but it would require a license for a Destructive Device. I don't know how or where to get that.

There have been sniper rifles made for the 14.5mm Russian heavy rifle round in Hungary in both single shot and semi-auto versions. Jane's manuals have some details on these - was the piece on display one of these or was it a new design? If my memory serves me right, some years ago, Steyr also had a 14.5mm "anti-materiel rifle" on the drawing boards with Ian Hogg writing about the design in one of his many books (I don't remember which one right now). This one was supposed to have a smooth-bore and fire flechettes at some incredibly high velocity.

From what I heard, it sounded like a custom made bolt-action.

The Styer is 15.2mm and has a separate powder charge. It is designed to be a crew-served weapon.

This new addition must be a design-successor to two Hungarian designed rifle types made by Istvan Fellegi, one a single shot with a cartridge carrier (as opposed to a bolt) and the other, a semi-automatic. Thanks about the info about the Steyr - the only info I had was from an old article by Ian Hogg (1990 or so).

I have heard that the rifle pictured at:

...is a prototype and production never occured. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Also, I'm still interested in BRASS casings. Anyone know a source for them? Please???

Thanks,

Shiflan

I once knew a guy who had some brass cased ammo, but he wanted 35 bucks apiece for them. For that price, it might be more economical to have someone with a CNC mill machine some "14.5 Basic" brass. (if you want it for firing instead of collecting)
