I'm building a new .375 H&H on a Zastava action but also happen to come upon a post war '98 (JC Higgens) gun. I have a bastogne stock, Dakota three position safety, Timney trigger and can easily get a .366 barrel for the post war Mauser. Now I'm wondering.....does it make sense to make a 9.3 X 62 and sell the .375 project or continue on with the .375. I've had zero experience with the 9.3 and was wondering if it's a good substitute for the .375.....For cape buff is the 9.3 as good? I really don't want both as I'm trying to drastically reduce the number of guns I own. I believe it's considered a legal caliber in all African countries. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." for the money you'll save by not going with the 375 (minimal JC higgins action mods needed) you'll be better off going with the 9.3. I assure you that if you take a poll of all the animals that die from your 9.3... absolutely none will be able to tell you the difference between it and the 375!

vapes, The Holland and Holland .375 is biggger, badder and better all around. No way would I choose a 9.3x62mm over the masterpiece of the Messrs. Holland. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

There has been lots of discussion of the legality of the 9,3x62 ... it is marginally legal in some places and illegal is some places that don't care ... do a search. From a practical point of view, if you're going to Africa and do not plan on a DGR larger than .375 in addition ... complete the .375 H&H. If you're going to use the rifle in NA, the 9,3x62 will do just fine and will make a very nice spare gun or backup gun for Africa as well. I REALLY, REALLY like the 9,3x62 but it really is not quite a .375 H&H. Mike -------------- DRSS, Womper's Club, NRA Life Member/Charter Member NRA Golden Eagles ... I like both the 9.3 and .375. You don't need both, and the 9.3 will get the job done with 15% less recoil. But it's cheap to rebarrel Mauser actions and work out any feeding issues, so why not build both?

vapodog.... the 9,3 vs the 375.... As most people on AR know my favorite hunting rifle under 40 cal is my 9,3x74R double rifle. The 9,3x62 is the same as the x74, actually it can even be loaded a little hotter. The 375 "on paper" outclasses the 9,3,s in every respect, more bullet weight, larger diameter, higher velocity. Usually the 375 rifles are heaver, and kick a little more. I think anything I could do with a 375 I can do with a 9,3. I think all 3 of them are light for buff, ele, hippo etc. The 375 has the advantage of available ammo. The 9,3x62 can weigh less and kick less. I would build the one that I thought I would like the most. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

The 9.3X62 would not be my first choice for buffalo - I much prefer something that begins with a .4. As a back-up rifle or a plainsgame rifle, the 9.3 is terrific, and would make a nice heavy rifle for NA game. If I were really trying to minimize the number of rifles I own, I'd have a 375 long after the 9.3 was gone. None of this takes into account the difficulty or expense of building a rifle for one cartridge or the other. ______________________________ "Truth is the daughter of time." Francis Bacon

Vapo you need both !! seriously if it is one or the other I would keep the .375 H&H due to popularity and a little more power......I own both so I am glad I do not have to choose

I have shot far more african game with the 9.3X62 than the 375H&H even though I own and shoot three 375s and one 9.3. For buffalo hunting I much prefer the 416 RM hands down over the other two. The biggest animal I killed with the 375 was an Eland and much biggr than any buffalo I taken. But if you're limited to only one choice I would opt for the 375H&H not because I'm sold on it as much as my personal philosopy of using a gun large enough to handle the biggest game you may shoot. I do think the larger 375 has ever so slight but none the less an edge on the 9.3.

There is always the 9.3 x 70 for those who want a flatter trajectory.

I like both calibers but comparing the 9.3x62 to a 375 H&H probably isn't a good idea although I have done that myself in the past, but after shooting a number of buffalo with both, I have to contridict myself from a few years ago and say the 375 H&H is by far a better DGR....The 9.3 x 62 is about the absolute minimum intelligent caliber for buff IMO, but those shot bulls do go quite a bit further when shot with the 9.3x62 than they do with a .375 IMO...I guess that doesn't matter to some as the 9.3x62 will certainly kill them, but what if they come your direction? The 9,3x62 is a fine cartridge if you can not afford 9,5...

When shooting at anything which can charge and then gore, stick nasty claws or big teeth into my tender body then the bigger the calibre the better. Ergo the 375 H&H. However, I'd rather have a 404. I'm pink therefore I'm Spam
