Just picked up some 285gr Speer Grand Slam bullets for my .375 H&H and am looking to put together a general purpose moose, bear, elk, etc. load. Any experience out there with this bullet. I am a big fan of Noslers and Swift A-Frames (not in that order), but have never tried the Speers.

Lefty,
It's a great bullet, a bit harder than the others, but great, never the less..

Lots of penitration and good expansion...

I agree with Ray. I have taken a few caribou with this bullet - about a 1-1.5" entrance wound and a 2" exit, with alot of damage in between. This would be an excellent bullet for the use you describe.

Gentlemen:
I do not know if things have changed with the 285 gr sp[eer bullet in the last few years. Maybe 10 years ago I played with some and found that they would either loose the jacket or if I sectioned them you would find a hollow section at the base, where the lead had moved forward during expansion. I would not use them on dangeerous game at close range if my life hung in the ballances,
but for general hunting at normal ranges I see no problems.
George
