Iam selling my ruger #1 458 lott. I have fired it 15 times
only. I have Hornady reloading dies and a case of federal
215 primers. I also have 1 box hornady unprimed brass. This
gun kicks hard.No fun shooting it.Must go!!! Asking $575

I just started experimenting with various reduced loads in my Ruger #1 458 Lott. I got an email from Accurate Powder today suggesting 40-43 grains of XMP-5744 for 500 grain cast bullets for about 1600fps. I also added weight to the butt to improve the balance and get the weight up to 10.25lbs. I sympathize with rebrick99, hard recoil is less and less fun, the 375H&H is about all I care to endure anymore.

Have you had any hangfires with the 30 grain load?

No hangfires and I do not use filler.



I also use 45 grains of 5744 with a 500 grain bullet in the 470 NE and in the 500 NE. The reason for the bigger powder charge is to get the loads to regulate, and that seems to be about perfectd in several doubles. Note that I am using a 500 grain lead bullet in the 500 NE, not a 570 grain.



As for the 30 grain load, it kicks so little that an 8 year old kid would not have difficulty with it.

Can you send me pics please? I have been considering a #1. My intent is to shoot mainly cast bullets at moderate speeds until i can get it weighted down with a mercury recoil reducer and other softening items.

Sorry the Ruger #1 458 Lott didn't work out for you. The bone stock #1 Lott is indeed a puncher. I hope you can move it quickly.
