I have a Rem 700 classic in .375 H&H that I would like to put a mcmillan or a brown stock on.I want to see what stock have held up well and handled the recoil well on your big bores. Also the rifle will be used with a scope. thanks

I put a Hogue overmolded stock on my 700 Classic in 8mm Magnum. True, only a medium bore, but I like the feel, fit and durability on it and have been happy. Pretty inexpensive too so if you don't like it, not a big loss. I've done a few of both and the Browns are the stronger of the two. All of the last McMillans I've done needed to be pillar bedded. The area under the recoil lug area is too soft. The Browns also handle recoil very well. The big problem with the Brown is if your doing all the work yourself they come rough as hell! Lots of work to make it into a nice stock. But they work very well when they're done.
