From all reports it will pretty well duplicate the .585 Nyatti 2.8" version, at this stage they will be going with a .640 rim. I only know this as Bertram is sending me a couple of .585 AHR cases to have a look at, as I and a friend are will be building ourselves .585's on 602 actions.

To cut to the chase it will be for all purposes the Nyatti with AHR headstamped on it.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Regards PC

PC,

You probably right.

You can see I have a link for .585 AHR
http://www.hunting-rifles.com/585AHR.htm

Length 2.900"
Shoulder Angle 25 degrees
Water Capacity 185 grains
Rim Thickness .065"
Neck Wall Thickness .015"
Rim Diameter .640"

I know a little bit AHR cartridges, I guess that .585 AHR will be a little bit more powerful than .585 Nyati. This with a higher velocity than .585 Nyati. But within a few days take a look to this link in order to see all the ballistic for this cartridge.
I could be wrong too.

I've talked to AHR about their 585 AHR and IMHO its basically a 2.8- 585 Nyati with a custom Head stamp and a slightly longer neck, designed to feed optimally through a CZ550 Magnum action.
I don't think there will be any ballistic advantage over the 2.8- 585 Nyati ( there are at least three separate versions that I know of and possibly more) and even if there was one, who in their right mind could tell?
Don't get me wrong, AHR is doing everything right with this cartridge and are wonderful people to talk with. I've just spent quite a bit of time researching how best to build a 585 Nyati and AHR was extremely helpful and knowlegeable. There are a number of pitfalls in building one that you can fall into and for the less experienced,if you want a cannon buying a 585 AHR would make a lot of sense.-Rob

Rob,

Did you figure out if you need to go single stack or if you can go staggered with the cz550 action and the 585 nyati?

Also, Seyfried's 585 nyati and standard Bertram brass uses a .640 rim, so I don't consider that anything new. It looks like AHR wants to monkey with the shoulder and neck a little. I am sorry to see they are not just following Seyfried's lead. The 585 nyati will end up a mish mash hash of a cartridge with no standardization.
