.715 lead ball out of my rifled shotgun? Login/Join

I shoot a .72cal Kodiak double barrel ML and cast my own lead balls for it which measure .715". I dropped a RB down my Marlin 512 bolt action sabot slug gun barrel and it 'barely' dropped with a few hesitations. If I load the RB into a plastic wad, it bulges the outside of the hull and won't chamber. Sooo...

I'm thinking about cutting the petals off a wad and paper patching the RB for a rifled RB load. Has anyone else done this?

Sounds like the old Pumkin Ball load that was a favorite with the deer hunters down here in the 60's and 70's,,not much on distance but inside of 40 yards it hit them hard and they didn't go far, if at all

I think that in general, a .690 RB is preferred in that application. I use the .735 and .715 in my Bess, but I've also used the .690. If you're just trying to save a buck, you can buy slugs and RBs pretty cheap at Ballistic Products.

The correct diameter is .690. Get another mould or take a look at some of the options on MidwayUSA. http://wwww.midwayusa.com
