Hi all, my long awaited CZ Safari Classic finally arrived. I did have to send it back once to the CZ Custom shop, but it came back better than I had hoped. First day at the range I shot 1 1/2" 3 shot groups at 100 yards with open sights. I expect to do a lot better with a Leupold 1.5 - 5x 20mm scope. The rifle functioned flawlessly. The bolt fit snugly but racked smoothly. The wood is gorgeous. Recoil was mild, probably due to the weight of the rifle, Pachmayer Decelerator recoil pad and mercury recoil reducer. Balance was perfect, 2 inches in front of the magazine. Here are some photos ...

Regards,

Chuck

Was your rifle a special order? According to the '08 catalog, the .375 is available in the Safari Magnum but not the Safari Classic. Not trying to be argumentative, as judging from the barrel band it clearly is a Safari Classic, just curious. Very nice looking rifle, BTW Wink

Hi DGR Shooter, I started out with an American Safari Magnum, but I ordered it through the custom shop because of all the additions I asked for: glass bedding, action job, dual cross bolts, high vis front sight, high gloss oil finish, mecury recoil reducer, barrel band, Pachmayer declerator pad, etc. Finally CZ said just order the classic in 375 and we'll add on your extras. My rifle does say Safari Classic on the action. I think I got a very good deal on it, $2100 and it has extras that you don't get with a normal Safari Classic

Chuck,

Thanks for the info, sounds like you got a great deal and have a .375 that's ready to tackle anything you throw at it. I hope it gives you many years of faithful service, as I'm sure it will.

I can see why you sent it back, and the finish still doesn't quite match the table or chairs!!!

Very nice. Too bad CZ doesn't concern themselves with us lefties, except for .22 rimfires... I'd order a .416 Rigby, very likely.

Is that front sight available from CZ?I can barely see the factory front sight if the light is a little dim. I could use 2 or three of them.

Yes the High Vis front sight which I did such a bad job of photographing was a $70 option.

HI all, I shot another 40 rounds through my CZ Safari Classic today. Learned two things, I defintely need a scope on it (I've always shot with a scope, even deer/elk running through the black timber). No problem off-hand with keeping 3 shot groups under 4 inches at 50 yards with open sights, but I could easily half that and shoot faster with a nice 1.5 - 5x 20mm Leupold. Second thing, this rifle is a pussycat with regards to recoil, I'm almost certain to have it rebarreled to .470 Capstick or a 500 class round next winter. I also shot a bunch of 3 shot strings rapid fire (for me) off hand. The action fed and ejected flawlessly, but my groups definitely got bigger during rapid fire. Practice, practice, practice...

Smiler
